And, the removal of the cab from the frame. It's officially a frame-off resto now.

Now, cleaning up the frame. You'd be subrised what some Bleche-White and a pressure washer can do.

Now that it's mostly apart, I'll probably start a new thread for the rebuild process. We got the ash bed boards planed, routered, and cut today. We'll have to test fit them after we get the bed reassembled when it comes back from the body shop. WooHoo! Can't wait!

I think you've got too much time on your hands... The way it looks, I would've driven it as is for at least 5-8 years before thrashing it. Just my .02...

I have. It served as a daily driver for six years. It's actually alot worse than the pictures show. Rockers and cab corners need to be replaced, pass. side fender had some funky bubbles from previous bad body work, and it was the wrong fender(67 with a hole cut in it for the light), stake pockets need to be removed because of rust around the spot welds, seam sealer in the drip rail was seperating causing rust bubbles on top of the cab, kick panels need to be repaired, rear fender were gettint rusty where they bolt to the bedsides. All in all, it is in great shape compared to some I've seen, but it had enough issues that it really had to be done. I was ready for a change anyway. I had got to the point, there was nothing else to do to it without going this far. It will all be worth it in the end. I hope.

Looks like you're making good progress!

I'll be starting the tear down of my truck next spring as well. Mine is in a fairly similar condition as yours was. Looks good from 20 ft, but you get up close and you can see the cancer. I had mine repainted 7 years ago, and its showing its age. I'm also going to convert it to a short bed with trailing arm suspension and air bags.

OK It's been a while since I've updated. My dad and I have got alot done. The chassis is now complete short of installing the engine/tranny which we will do after we get the cab back and mounted from the body shop at which time we will also install the wiring harness, brake booster, and the remaining brake lines.

I hired a new body man in November. I haven't been able to talk to him or check on progress for the past two weeks due to being slammed for Christmas. The last time we did talk, he had most of the holes filled in the firewall. He wasn't making as good of progress as he wanted because of some of his bodymen being out sick. He actually has my truck at his house to work on it himself instead of it going through too many hands at his shop. He's maiking it his own personal project.

Here are some pics of the frame after cleaned and painted sitting in the sun to dry. We used Rustoleum Semi-Gloss black rattle-can paint. This stuff works really well. It lays and blends reall good and matches from can to can. I've seen some paints that actully mismatch if the cans are from different batches.

The new ECE drop spindle and 4"rear drop springs are also installed.

Here is my engine painted after the new CompCams XE262H cam and new CompCams Magnum 1.52 ratio roller tipped self-aligning rockers and new Edelbrock True roller timing chain. The TH350 after a new coat of paint. The last picture is of my sway bar painted body color also.
