Comp Xtreme 4x4 Cam

Does anybidy have experience with running a Comp Xtreme 4x4 cam? I am rebuilding the top end of my motor and am looking for some good low end grunt. I will have vortec heads, air gap intake, and 650 Edelbrock. Any ideas?

I just put a Comp 270H Magnum in my 327. It's got tons of low end torque. Back in the late '60's the 270 duration (224@.050), 470 lift cams were known as "stump pullers". Awsome truck power. And they still have plenty of top end.

Beware : Comp cams CAN be noisy. I personaly will NOT use Comp Cr@p

Yes, the magnum series solid cams are very noisy, I had a Comp .525 lift solid cam in my '78 malibu and all you could here was the lifters rattling when it was running. The hydraulic cam I'm using in my truck now is quite, no lifter noise at all, just the full roller rockers I'm running are a little louder than I thought they'd be.

I am running Comp Cams Xtreme Energy X4254H, it's a nice mild cam with slight, noticeble idle. I am collecting parts to build a 400 and I'll go with the slightly biger version of that cam.

Solid Comp cams are noisy, but so are everybody's. The Comp hydraulic cams are as quiet as any other cam.

The Xtreme 4X4 is a great low end torque cam. I have the CS X4 254H-11 in the 383 in my '69 Car Hauler. I replaced a factory 396 with this 383, and it pulls much better than the 396 ever did. I have pulled as much as 18,000# with this truck, and it does a great considering it is a small block. The cam a slight lope at cold idle, but pretty much sounds stock when it gets warm. It provides very good vacuum for my power brakes.
