All you Serpentine guys!!!

I got all my stuff and I believe I'm almost ready to start. I've got the two big brackets at the sandblaster ready to be cleaned. My question is that I'm only seeing a select amount of holes for the brackets to be bolted onto. It looks like my head is missing a hole. I have all the bolts that are supposed to be in screwed in a little to show my problem.

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

I didn't have a hole there either, upon another members advice (Gman69 maybe?) I did without that bolt. You can't see it with the bracket installed and there seems to be no affect on its performance.

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

Bought an alternator for a 93 Silverado, (105 amp I think). The only thing I really had to modify was the bracket that runs from the back of the alternator to the back of the ps pump and front of exhaust manifold.

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

I'm not running that bolt\screw either. I guess if your anal you could drill and tap onr. I would make sure you use all or as many of the braces as you can though. Don't forget along with the water pump you need a reverse rotation fan for the pump (unless you are using electric fans) and a big block fan shroud. Also there is no heater return line in these water pumps so if you have earlier than a 71 radiator you will need to switch to one with the return in the radiator or rig somethine else up. Are your going to run A\C?

No, I will not be running A/C.

I have the braces and will definitely be using them. What do you mean a return on the radiator?

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

The return line that usually goes from the heater to the water pump instead goes to a fitting soldered to the right side of the radiator. I believe all trucks from 71 on did this.

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

Sorry, you should know by now nothing is as easy as it seems with these trucks especially when trying to upgrade to newer parts. I just switched radiators and water pump with my burb its a 71..

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

I have seen someone put a 'T' in the radiator hose with a nipple that would fit the heater hose.

HOLD ON!!! My reverse rotation long water pump has the coolant return in it. Purchased from O'Reilly's on my way up to Pigeon Forge in May, '05. I asked for a pump for a '93 or so C-1500 5.7. Hope this helps.

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

The pasenger side A/C bracket, I only used the one bolt. 1, that is al I had drilled. 2. That is all the truck it came from used. Two of the holes on the driver's side head I used for the bracket, and one for a support brace.

My alternator is a 130 amp model. Watch out, the 105 and 90 amp models use a different plug (as I found out.)

You should not need a new radiator. The water pump I got for mine (94 silverado 350) had a plug in it that I took out and put the heater hose nipple from the none serp water pump and put it on the serp one. Heater issue was solve. Gman69 did the same thing. Krue said his didn't ome with the boss to put on the nipple, so I guess it varies by brand. Make sur you get a new water pump with the plug, sio you can swap out the nipple.

I, like Krue mentioned, modified the bracket from the rear of the alternator to the power steering pump. I trimmed off the area that goes to the exhaust manifold. I did notice with my new valver covers its real tight to remove a valve cover enless I remove the alternater and loosen that brace for some give.

I only used the brace support that runs from the drivers head to the point behind the tensioner on the AC bracket. GMan69 and Putter aren't running any, and no issues yet. On another note, You will probably want to change your thermostat housing to one that ponts straight ahead instead of angled like the stock one. Your upper radiator hose will have some issues with the alternator.

Dang George beat me to it on the water pump.

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

Thanks for the detailed description Bill. So you didn't use the hole at the bottom of the A/C bracket? I have a hole there so I can bolt it up at the bottom.

Thanks for the thermostat housing advice too. I'll have to find out what applications had a straight one on it.

One more thing. What did your A/C delete pully run you?

This is the one I bought for mine from Advanced Auto Parts.

Mr. Gasket Water Neck: Chrome; Late; 45 Degree Swivel; Chevy V8

Part Number: 9141G

The AC Delete ran around $50 after shipping. I got it through Wes, but it may still be a dealer available item.

Bascially any truck from about 88+ will have it. Maybe even 87s, I can't remember You can use a setup off a 4.3 as well. Just make sure that whatever you get has a normal 6 groove belt, rather than something crazy like 4 or 5, lol

Re: All you Serpentine guys!!!

I just bought a used gm fast burn 385 it was in a 96 Transam and the serpentine set up it is kind of weird, it has separate v groove belts for the powersteering pump and a low bracket on the passenger side i was thinking might be for the ac, i thought he might have changed it around a little when he put the new motor in and removed the ac. Anyway are any of these interchangeable and /or how much should i be looking to pay for a complete used setup??
