81'-87' Cluster with Tach went high on e-bay

A cluster with tach out of an '81 Chevy truck went for $315.55 + shipping on E-Bay. I have one in my truck and are they really worth that much?

That's about $100.00 high for an unrestored tach dash.

Re: 81'-87' Cluster with Tach went high on e-bay

I sold one a few years back for a little more than that one on Evilbay. Mine was not in as nice shape because i had two and took all the best gauges and put them in the one i still have. The one i still have looks brand new. Here is a pic of it. The lense is actually better than it looks, just dirty from sitting for so long. It was new when i put it on.

NO, it is not for sale

Tach dashes are weird, I see some go for dirt cheap, other go for crazy amounts like the one just posted off Ebay. One of the reasons this one went for so much is because the winning bidder aparently has no clue how to bid on Ebay and get thing as cheap as possible (by sniping)...he placed 13 separate bids!

, I always wait till the auction is about over and put the amount I am willing to pay in. That guy just wanted this really bad I guess. Well, he got it all right.

i paid $150 for mine, restored and with the working tach... only issue, was the tach was "working," but a little slow... so, an additional $175 later, I had the tach rebuilt and it works great.

Re: 81'-87' Cluster with Tach went high on e-bay

I found one in a c65 but the dash it itself was smashed in around it after about an hour and a half of trying to get it out to sell it cracked (most of the tabs were already broken off) so I gave up and left it but at these prices I'm tempted to go get it and rebuild it lol.

You can't use Ebay as a price guide. As Ken and Jeff pointed out.
I sold all of my normal tach clusters at seperate times for average of $200. The highest was $250, but it was perfect (wish I still had it...) the lowest was $150.

The highest I sold a Vac/Tach was $375, again, it was working and nothing was broken.

I wouldn't pay $315 for that one.

Re: 81'-87' Cluster with Tach went high on e-bay

The style like i posted seem to go higher since they were only available up to about 83 from the factory in light duty trucks. I did see an NOS one with vaccuum gauge go for over $450 on Ebay. It had the gas guage and tach combined though and the tach only went to 4500 RPM. After selling my other old one i ended up with no money in the one i still have even after putting on a new gauge lense and printed circuit.

Basically i have found that on ebay just like in life, These things are only worth what some one is willing to pay. That one was in okay shape but at 315 he can have it
