Anyone Ever Replace Their Window Vent Rubber - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I finally got around to replacing the rubber on my chrome window vents. The operation was a success; however, the windows seen a little tight now. Is it because the rubber is newer and thick? Or did I just screw up? Please let me know.

YOU MAY HAVE CRANKED DOWN ON THE ADJ NUT TOO MUCH. HOW EASY WAS IT TO OPEN BEFORE IT WAS REINSTALLED. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO OPEN IT WITH ONE HAND WHEN UNINSTALLED. NEW RUBBER WILL MAKE IT A LITTLE HARDER TO OPEN AND CLOSE BUT NOT REAL HARD. DID YOU PUT THE LITTLE FIBER WASHERS IN ON THE SPRING? i BET YOU JUST TIGHTEND THE NUT TOO MUCH.

I don't know if I bent, twisted, or just misalligned the frame when I put mine back together, but they won't open or close worth a damn... It's ok tho, that'll make it hard for anyone to break into the wing vent... I'm putting A/C in and the boy don't smoke so they won't get used much anyway...

I'll check the nut when I get home from work today. I was real careful when I took it apart and I put in back together exactly in reverse order as the same way I took it apart. I left them out in the sun the past couple of days hoping the rubber will stretch out a little. I'll mess with them a little more tonight.

Cwilke how difficult was it to replace your vent wndow rubber and how are you window operation since they sat out in the sun all day. I want to do mine but I was advised that you need ajig to do it perfectly otherwise they will never be the same, I think this guy might have been trying to sell me new ones for some $350.00 for the pair

After they sat in the sun the past couple of days the rubber is a little more flexible. I also loosened the nut at the bottom of the window a little too. The are still a little tight but I am pretty sure they may work themselves out. It is true they are not the same; however, they have new and thicker rubber in them now. The process was a little difficult on the first window and I actually messed up on one of the bottom rivets. You really need to pay attention to the pilot dipple that is needed before you drill out the rivet. After I got the process down everything went smooth.

If I have the cash I would buy some new ones but all the places I have found are selling them for $199.99 each. $350.00 for new ones seems like a good deal.
