Re: What has 134 bolts,

How many coats did you put on? Wish I could see the pic, but I got a red X.

Did you thin it and brush it or spray it?

Re: What has 134 bolts,

Hi Buffalo. Hopefully you can see the pic now. Fixed the link. It has 6 coats on it, and I used a brush. I used as high quality brush that I could find, and sanded with progressively finer sandpaper between coats. Started out with 220, and used 600 before the last coat.

Looks great. You did it right by using finer paper each time. Should last a long time.

Re: What has 134 bolts,

Thanks for all the compliments. It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth it. And to everyone asking if they can borrow it to move something.... If you can hold it in your hands, while sitting in the cab, then sure, we'll move it!

Another view.

Re: What has 134 bolts,

Thanks AKChevyman. It's oak. And yours can look that nice. I'm not that much of a wood worker, but just took my time, and read a lot of info on how to do it. I think the 2 biggest things to do are use a very high quality brush, and keep the wood clean as possible. It was time consuming, but I would sand the wood in one area of my basement, and move it into another area to brush it. After each sanding, I would wipe the wood down with a lint free cloth, dampened with mineral spirits, to get all the dust off.

Re: What has 134 bolts,

For you guys with short-bed steps. If you have a really nice wooden bed like that. I found something that really works well to protect. The Southern States Co-op sell stall mats (for horse stalls). They're black and made of recycled rubber (smell like new tires) and they're 3/4" thick. Thy're 4'x6' which makes them about 6" short of completely filling the length of a short stepside. Thry're heavy as all get out and nothing will slide on them. They have a smooth texture on one side and a rough texture on the other.

Just a suggestion for protecting those nice bed floors.
