8 inch lift
I have a 84 chevy stepside with a four inch suspension lift and a two inch body lift. Im looking to go to an 8 inch suspension lift. first off.....would it be smarter to run 8 inch springs? or do one of thoes shackel flips and do a 6 inch ( because i think it said it would add two inches) in the rear and 8 in the front. then... is there any major mods i would have to make because of the lift? i would drive it on the street every so often. thanx!

Shackle flip can get you 4" of lift. Upfront you really dont have much of a choice except go with all spring lift. you will need longer driveshafts and brakelines.. and either cross over steering or a drop pitman arm.. is your truck going to be strictly mud or is it going to see trails? a shackle flip will get you a bit more flex than a 8" lift spring.

right....so if i do the shackle flip i would need four inch springs for the rear and 8 inch springs for the front? It would be trails and a little mud.

right...there is a leaf spring company (the name evades me at the moment), they use more leaves, but they are thinner, which allows them to flex better than most lift springs that use fewer thicker leaves.

I would go shackle flip in the rear, 4" springs, and a zero rate so you can move the axle centered in the wheel well. Up front dont forget about you pinion angle, with that much lift you are going to need some serious shims. Also your caster? is going to be off. If you go crossover you will need a d44 flat top pass knuckle. Unless you are just after a lot of lift, I would stay low and trim/cut the fenders.
