Re: 307 verses a 350

307 not nearly as powerful or does it have the torgue of a 350. I never had problems with them in my old Chevelles, but not sure how they would really do a a full size truck. Can't be any worse than a 305 in my opinion. It really just depends on what you want out of the truck/engine combo.

Re: 307 verses a 350

You could wake up a 307. Carb, cam, intake, heads, headers, HEI upgrade, etc. She'd go. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=45615 Good reading about the 307.

Re: 307 verses a 350

My mileage actually increased quite a bit in my 69 when I pulled out the 307 and put in a small block 400. The 400 has so much more torque, it isn't even breathing hard at 70 mph, where the little 307 was having to work pretty hard to push that much iron and wind resistance down the road.

Re: 307 verses a 350

Mine started life with a 307. It held up good to about 160,000. It had a
2bbl and would only get about 12mpg. I changed it to a Holly 400cfm
4 bbl and it went to about 14. It would rev quick but ran out of power.
It has had three other engines: 327 and built up 350. It currently has
a stock 350 w/RV cam and gets about 17mpg. Changing to a 3.08 differential
helped a lot. the 350 has much more power and runs smoother. It does
not like pulling heavy trailers. It is now retired from that.

Re: 307 verses a 350

yea 350 much better. I had a 307 fresh and it was all show and no go, but got the same milage as a 350 or worse. if you want to keep it for originality then fine but go with a 350 for the long run.
