Hey folks,

I've been looking for quite some time for a decent truck, after a few failed attempts and waisting lots of money. (actually it's been a few years)I'm wondering if If I'll find something in my area. I know I can go south west and have one shipped. I just don't want to do that. I want to physically touch it. And my budget doesn't justify a plane ride. Oh I'm a fat lazy American also

So, I came across a 65 ford 250 with a warmed over 390 with a c6. The tranny and engine were rebuilt 10K ago and the paint is only 2 years old, new rear 4:10's. It's a cali truck and has only been in Pa a few years. Newer tires brakes yada, yada. It's ready to run/drive. It's still got manual brakes/steering, but that can be fixed. Listed at $3200 but I think I can get it for $2800. The dude is a "chevy man" and bought it while fixing his impala now he needs the cash.

I still have my 77 k20 burb that slowly being pieced together and "unrusted". But that won't be on the road till next spring/summer.

I'm conflicted.I love the chevy community, but that ford is tempting me. I know the answer is: just be wait for the right truck. I've got the itch. I need/want a truck.

Just needed to clear the air.

I just picked one out that had a manageable amount of rust damage

If the truck is anything at all I don't think you could go wrong. It will surely be resaleable down the line and they are indeed very popular. BUT , I've owned a lot of FE ( 352-428 ) Fords over the years and one thing I can tell you is that they are fond of gas stations. Especially when equipped with deep gears like a 4.11 or 4.56 . I wouldn't expect any better milage than 6-10 mpg out of it depending on cam , carb , driving habits etc... JMHO, Dean

I love chevys.... but ford has some NICE looking trucks. The 60's and 70's fords are some of the nices looking trucks around.... I say go for it. I'm originally from southwest NY )45 min from Erie PA, and I know how hard it is to find something nice that's older than 10 years old. If you really like it and it will make you happy, buy it. If you're only buying it because its rust free and you don't really like the truck, pass on it.

Don't forget, you can always build it ford tuff with chevy stuff

If the price is right and it is OLD - who cares what the name on the truck says. Lots of chevy guys out there driving old fords with chevy drivetrains in them -

ME being one of them.

Look @ the HotRod Community - 90's of the cars in the 30's were Fords - there are tons of chevy guys driving around in old fords.

(PS if he needs the cash that bad..offer $2500 and don't act all that interested in it - never know what he may say )

Oh, I do like it. I'm gunna look at it today, and maybe decide. The engine drivetrain is a little worriesome more engine than I need. But I figure it's a solid base. I can have new gears installed or run an overdrive tranny in it.

But I will most like run it for the winter. I have a 4 spd OD tranny here that I got for $25 rebuilt like new toploader. Maybe I'll make a project out of that in the spring.

Two other items , he had a custom gas tank made for it, using the in the bed tool box. I think he said the rear was a dana 70

yeah im with Krue. if you need the metal for patch panels and the engine for a go cart...eh...it would still have to be free, then i would have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach...but hey, its your cash.. just dont be offended when little kids point an luagh instead of just gaze at you when you roll by...hahaha..what ever blows your hat back man. good luck. w.

I like all trucks that are classics, just like the Chevy's much better. I say go for it and keep looking for what you really want. You will be less likely to settle for a Chevy that is below what you are looking for later down the road if you already have this Ford. My first car was a 62 Ford Stepside so I can't really be a hater and the 390 motor is one of the best power plants for a light truck ever devised.

I have *my* favorite body style in my driveway, but when i decided to get a classic truck to rebuild it could have as easily been an early/mid sixties Ford as my C20 .. (anything but one of those butt-ugly sixties Dodges!)

If it's solid, runs right and doesn't have custom rust -- it's absolutely worth $3k .. if you like it .. I vote yes. You can have one of each.. heck.. beat Ford and GM to the merger and do it yourself.. hee hee

I guess it has the makings of one. I'm just looking for a nice classic truck thats still driveable.

I was inches away fron owning a 58 dodge with a ploy 318(semi hemi)

No doubt I live in chevy country. And I was pushing the issue with chevy/ (actually I like the gmc's) cause I'm familure with them and have lots af extra parts.

Trying to find a decent priced clean one here ain't easy.

Crap, oops, that's not my truck It's a pic I found on ebay in case some people don't know what a 65 ford looks like Forgot to mention that in my post My uncles truck was painted exactly like that, except swap out the black (or really dark blue???) for red and thats what his truck looked like. He sold it back in the mid 90's. Like I said, my cousin (his son thats my age) and I used to get him to take us for rides when we were kids and he'd do "squealys" (burnouts) for us. Fun truck.

Yep, those PA winters really take their tolls on old trucks. About 10 years ago, I went to look at a 67 Chevy 4wd shortbed in Sunbury. I knew it wouldn't be rust free, but that thing was rusty. Didn't stop me from buying it, fixing enough to get it inspected and driving it. With manual steering and little to nothing that worked, it was still a blast. Moral: It may not be your ideal truck, but who cares, have some fun with it.

The Idea has entered my mind recently since I know where there a clean 64ish?(I know that its 61-66 atleast) .....And I do have that 6.5 diesel engine im my garage...and I need a college vehicle(senior year of hs now)...I like old trucks.....and I really really really despise front wheel drive......I know this is the wrong place to ask but has anyone done the chevy poweplant/trans into one of these trucks(It should be relatievly simple on that old of a truck(both mechanical and electrical?{thats what really worrys me }))

67redneck. some brothers at my HS many years ago drove the truck pictured.They were known to work 10 hour days and go to school full time and as such were usually hot dusty dirty and sweaty when seen driving it.So we nicknamed it the skunk truck.It still graces their yard.At least the bed since it's a trailer now.

Id rather drive any old truck ie chevy ford or dodge than any of this new stuff. No offense to the guys that like newer stuff. But to me when it comes right down to it if you like and your going to be the one that owns it then only your opion counts. So if you like go for it. Hope I didnt ruffle anybodys feathers.

Just buy it if you want it, don't worry about the brand loyalty thing. Keeps things interesting to have something different. Hell, I have a secret fascination with 70's IH pu's and travelalls. I worked on and drove a few in Wyo and they are fugly-cool.
