Stepside vs SWB - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys, my first post. There is a ton of great stuff on here! I have a swb 71 C-10 and was thinking of getting a 67 stepside that's for sale in the area. The stepside bed is pretty hammered out, and I was wondering if I could swap a swb bed that I have?

I did a search on the differences of swb vs stepside beds, but didn't come up with anything.

Welcome to the board from southern Mississippi. If both are short wheel base (SWB) trucks the beds will interchange no problem between fleet and stepside. However, the rear wiring harness is different between fleet and step, so that will be somthing you make sure gets taken caare of.

i am sure it is a direct swap. since these years had the tank behind the seat and seeing that yours is a SHORTwb it sould swap no problem. the frame is the right leangth and the dementions are the same so it is a direct bolt in and just have to wire the lights. If you had a long bed then there would be a problem or if the 67 was a long stepside but chaces of that are very small

I think you mean Fleetside instead of SWB

SWB is Short Wheel Base. That chassis was available with both Fleetside beds and Stepside beds

a SWB is a short wide bed, where i come from, and a SNB is a short narrow bed, but yeah, most people on here mistake it as Short wheel base

SWB is a widely understood abbreviation for Short Wheel Base, but as long as you know what is what

No some people mistake it for Short Wide Bed, it IS Short Wheel Base.

now I have read it all (SWB) short wide bed !

on a camaro site once I saw a 1967 camaro RS/SS being called a SS/RS
and a big bunch of posts about it

I grew up calling short fleets "short wides" but SWB does mean short wheel base. But I will always call short fleets "short wides".
Just to clarify SWB=short wheel base

What if you buy a 72 115" wheel base truck with no bed, what would you call it. Besides a 115" wheel base truck with no bed.

Welcome to the forum 29od1 Unfortunately this is an old debate that rises to the top from time to time. Don't feel like you started anything new.

It seems that some regions of the country always referred to a short bed fleetside as Short Wide Beds , while others used the SWB to designate Short Wheel Base.

That would be a SWB... 115 wheel base is short wheel base.

GM referred to the Short Wheel Base models as SWB and the Long Wheel Base models as LWB.

Beds were either Fleet or Step, regardless of the wheelbase.

If it was good enough for the factory, then it's good enough for me.
