Post INSURANCE for high $$ trucks??

I know this has probably been covered many times but I've missed it. Where can you get insurance that will pay for the value of your truck(blazer) in the event of a bad wreck? If I've got $7-$8K(and yes this is high $$ compared to my $200 daily driver) invested I don't want to loose over half of that because it was just an old '71 Blazer to the insurance fella. Know what I mean?

I think most insurace companies offer a declared value policy.

I just went through this with State Farm....they will give you a policy for any stated value it just costs money(and in the event of your truck being totaled they still only pay wut they determine it to be worth...supposedly fair market value for a clasic is simmular condition) so you have to determine what trucks like yours are selling for and get prof of those costs in order to get paid....Their regular full coverage insurance is pretty high...much higher for a 6 grand stated value than the insurance on my wifes brand new Suburban....but they offer Clasic insurance for a non daily driver which i got for about 70 bucks for six months...not to bad...

Be REAL careful with State farm! I had ALL my insurance with them. Business, Malpractice, Homeowners, All vehicles, umbrella, etc. While the Studebaker was under construction, they kept hassling me about only having comp coverage on it; ie cancellation notices on umbrella policy. I woulld send a picture of it in pieces in garage and they would "go away". Finally, the day came to put it on the road. They wanted to know a value. I gave them one, (over 10K) and they insured it but kept wanting an appraisal. We attended a show in Laughlin, NV where they had an NSRA safety 23 inspection and appraisal all set up. I did the inspection, got the window sticker, and did the appraisal. I was floored with the figure they gave me, but took the appraisal to my agent's office. They quoted a premium, but after months of discussion, they refused to insure it, because "modified vehicles have lesser value than restored". My new coverage is for stated value (appraised), no mileage limit (but can't be a daily driver), and I'm a lot happier. Check your coverage!

Thumbs up

My truck is insured full for $8k with Nationwide. I am limited to weekends only but I still pay $248 per year. If I had a garage, I would go with J.C. Taylor or Haggerty for almost half.
