Gotta question on 67-72 motor mount locations

Hi. I've noticed alot of trucks in the junkyards and such, having a different motor mount location. I notice automatic long box trucks, have their motor mounted more forward. I also notice some manual long box trucks have their motor munted farther back.....WHY???? These are small block trucks also. My short box truck had the 4spd in it, and am now putting in TH350, and the motor mount father back. Now, I know there's 3 holes in the frame for the mount pertch....and 2 are used to bolt on the pertch(proper name?). And only one hole in the front cross member for the bottom of the pertch. HELP??

all small blocks were located in the same position in 2 wheel drives, all big blockds had there position, and all inlines had there position, the tranny had nothing to do with it.
On 4X4 trucks, all small blocks were moved back towards the firewall, bolted in the inline 6 position.

If all 4x4 trucks had their engine moved back...why is my truck all hacked. The HEI is VERY tight against the firewall, on a 2wd small block truck. Heck the manual crossmember was still riveted in the stock location. I know it's a 35+ year old truck....but it just boggles my mind....??? Possibly my chassis had a 6cyl, moved back....my cab had a small block. I think I know what's happening, I got it figured out...i think. My doghouse has a nice HUGE hole in it...they made the shifter hole bigger. Thanks for the help....now i'm ranting and thinkign while typing. haha.

It sounds like yours is in the 6cyl mounts, an HEI has plenty of room to the firewall in a small block truck.

I'll leave it where it is....I've got the trick for the hei. Will I have bellhousing problems with the th350 if i leave the motor back?? Firewall clearence, I should be droping in the combo this weekend.
