What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. I went to Mom-in-Laws house and ate like a pig. We had two deep fried turkeys, one smoked turkey, and a spiral cut ham. Add all the potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, rolls, etc and I was stuffed like a tick.

I really got a lot of things done over the long weekend. Even though I was on call, it was rather quiet so I managed to do things around the house, and in the garage that I have been putting off forever.

Recently my wife and I were talking about me buying another hotrod. That opened up a lot of conversation about making room in my garage for something else. She suggested selling her 84 Z-28 since we haven't touched it in years. I suggested we clean it up before we sell it. In the process of cleaning it up she saw images of what the car once was and felt compelled to keep it. That urge may change once we get the car running again, but for now the resurrection of "Obsession" has begin.

What did you get done?

This is 7 years of dust that collected on it in my old warehouse-

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

My wife and I had Thanksgiving lunch/dinner at her Moms place, we then went to my Aunts for dessert.

House wise, spent some time staining the insides of our new windows.

Truck wise, went junkyarding and picked up a pair of manual window regulators, installed diff cover, fuel cell vent line, and bent and installed all new rear brake lines. The bed is now ready to be installed.

EDIT: I just ordered a 1-piece window kit for Yeller...

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

My brother and I modified my Magnum to provide an in-cabin liftgate release. This included adding a small switch in a discreet location, and we added a couple of "helper" springs to get the liftgate to raise the first 6 inches by itself. It is odd Dodge doesn't have something like this built-in already.

Spent 7 hours trying to swap intakes, ended up buying a new intake completely, ran outta daylight and parts, so I'm -1 in the vehicle department until next weekend in all likelyhood.

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

Eight hours to Shreveport Wednesday night to spend Thanksgiving with Mom. We spent Thursday eating and fishing at Mom's boyfriend's pond. We left Friday afternoon so we could do Thanksgiving again Saturday with my in-laws. I got very little sleep Wednesday through Friday night.

Spent all day Saturday eating and resting at the in-law's house. Found out my brother-in-law is going to Afganistan, but only for three weeks.

I spent today at the lake with some friends fishing and relaxing. I had to drive the truck down some dirt roads and over some rough areas at their campsite (scraaaaaaape!). The truck is filthy now.

I sure don't want to go to work...

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

Well, just like everyone else I ate like pig.

Spent two days working on my truck.

I switched fan clutches and fans around so many times trying to get something to work and I still didn't completely get the problem fixed. I think that a water pump and new fan clutch is needed to completly fix it , but I could probably wait until closer to summer time.

Then I replaced the rubber sway bar bushings for one smoooth ride.

I washed and detailed my truck so now it looks like new. But, I found some new paint bubbles

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

I spent Thanksgiving with my family down in Oregon.

Friday, I rode along with my uncle 200 miles away to fix a jukebox in one of his locations. The repair only took a couple minutes and since we were 'in the neighborhood' we drove another 3 hours to Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, Idaho. We got their at 5:15 pm and left at 9:15 pm, each with a new truck. I'd been working this deal since the middle of August, so it's not quite as impulsive as it sounds. We were back in Portland at 4:30 AM.

Yesterday I worked on snowmobiles for half the day and came home today.

Nice pic, but what is that all over the grass? Everytime I start thinking about moving up north, winter rolls around, and I am reminded why I need to stay here. I wore shorts, t-shirt, and sandals to Best Buy today!!!

It actually has a car cover. That is a pic taken when I pulled it out of my warehouse 7 years ago. At that time I didn't own the car, I was just storing it for my buddy that I sold it to.

It's sad that he never did anything with it so it sat and all the hundreds of dollars in chrome rusted....

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

Thursday we went to my wife's Grandfather's house... its always fun to go there.. he has a shop will all sorts of old stuff.. from tools, to toy tractors, to just about anything.. he even has a WWI soldiers helmet. After eating there we went to my families to see some cousins I havent seen in years.

Friday I pulled the front end off my 87... I was going to put the 4 core radiator from my 82 in it and figured I would try and figure out why the hood and fenders werent lining up right. I pulled the radiator support out as I thought I might replace it with the one off the 82.. until I found out my frame is bent. It doesnt seem to effect the suspension as we have had the truck almost a year and the tires are wearing great. So I put the original core support back on and through my 4 core rad in. Alot of work and only a little accomplished.

Sat I buttoned up a few things on the truck and fixed my bike so my wife, myself, my daughter and my wifes brother could go ride at the park..

Sunday, We worked in the morning and then brought my niece home so her and my daughter could play.

Wasnt a bad extended weekend, except I have atleast 12 spider bits on the bottom of my foot, so I have had to walk around on the ball of my left foot the whole time. Its getting better and I am going to see the doctor tomorrow hopefully...... But for today...it's off to work I go....

Ken, Now that your wife wants to fix the Cam up does that mean your new hotrod project is on hold?

And what was this hotrod gonna be another truck or something else?

Yeah it puts my ideas on the backburner. If I am going to get he Camaro running again, I need to get my garage in order. That will require a lot of time and $$$. Once I get the Camaro to a point that we can decide what to do with it, I may start looking again.

Yes it will be a truck, but there is a possibility it might not be a GM truck.

I bought a 1966 Chevelle 396 SS its in rough condition but it was worth the 3,500 I spent to get it. It was almost all complete it needs grille front bumper and bucket seats. At this rate I'll never finish my truck Oh well I did start boxing in the frame of my truck this week end I'll post pics later.

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

Got my butt handed to me by my truck.

I tried to fix an exhaust leak caused by a blown collector gasket with some new aluminum gaskets (which suck, BTW), then regular old Mr. Gasket gaskets, but still didn't work. Now my collector flanges are all bent up and it sounds worse than it did before I started. Grrr!

Also tried to fix a wicked idle surge by replacing the PCV and vacuum hose to the PCV. The surge got a little better, but it's still there. Grrr again!

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition

I, ofcourse, ate like there was no tomorrow. But most importantly my friend, brother, and I spent most of Friday just messing around with cars. I got my truck running finally. I put in the starter about 5 times total before I got it working, towards the end I was so frustrated that I forgot to disconnect the battery and I touched some steel lines with the starter and that caused a lot of sparks to fly, most of which landed on my chest (I always work on cars without a shirt). I bought a new battery for it, because the previous was a crappy one to begin with and only lasted for about 6-8 months. I also bought and installed a new fuel filter and fuel lines.

We changed the headlights on my brothers '86 Camaro. Don't know who was the genius over at GM that decided to put the lower bolts of the headlights where they did. We also found out that the throttle linkage had slipped, and us going pedal to the metal was actually only about 1/3 of what the car had. Got that fixed and its moving pretty darn well now!

Cleaned the gutters
Cleaned the roof
Put up lights
Raked & Mowed the Lawn
Winterized the boat
Built a fence

Now for the fun stuff:

I purchased the following for my 87
Billet Gauge Surround
Billet Dash & Door stips
New carpet
Adapters for the leather seat w/ fold down consol
B-Quiet - Ultimate
Q Logic kick panels to accept 6.5" component speakers
Triple Shock Hoops from Blazerman

I'm waiting for my Autometer Ultra Light gauges to arrive and then I'll begin to put everything back together. The cab is torn down, so I'm ready to get moving as soon as the B-Quiet shows up. I'll post pics once I get started.
