Unhappy double cking engins swap??

Want to be sure that my powerglide will bolt onto a 350 and will I need to use the powerglide torque converter, flywheel and starter off my 6 cyl(250). Also
will my original driveshaft(the 6 cyl one) still fit without any mods. Hope I am not boreing anyone with this project but dont want any surprises when I do start. Too cold in texas to start right now but want to have all ?? answered when it does warm up and I can start. Been a while since I have done this and want to do it one more time before all I can do is drive. Thanks..

Re: double cking engins swap??

The 'Glide will bolt up as long as you didnt scrounge it off a BOP engine.

And NO....neither the 250 flywheel nor the starter will work on the 350. Im not sure about the converter though. Im leaning towards no though.

The driveshaft.....maybe, is there a big difference in length between the 'Glide and what ever you had in it before?

Re: double cking engins swap??

Well I have herd differently, In an old truck Magazine they did it and didnt have a problem. I will see if I can find it for you real quick.

edit: November 99 issue of sport truck. They put a 350 in place of a 250 i6. The truck also had a power glide, they decided not tuse the power glide but did use the starter and flexplate from the 250 and it bolted right up and even worked with there Th350 they installed. The only reason they swapped out the glide is they wanted a 3 speed auto.

Just pull out the old 250 and mount the 350 to the old 6cyl stands where they are. It will fit. The engine will just be closer to the firewall. I have seen this done many times with all the transmisions used.

When you install the th350. Use the small block motor mount stands to move the engine forward and install the trans, The 6" tailshaft 350 is 3" longer than a power glide. But when You mount the small block on the v8 towers instead of the i6 towers it moves the motor forward 3". Hope this helps. Feel free to pm with any questions.

Re: double cking engins swap??

if it is a powerglide, it'll bolt up to the 350... no such animal as a BOP powerglide
What are you doing, installing the 350 into the inline truck? If you don't move the tranny, then the drive shaft will be fine.
I am 99% sure the 'glide converter will bolt right up to the 350's flex plate.

the 350 t / 6" tail is the same lenght as a glide(within a fraction of an inch). Either will allow you to bolt the sb in on the I 6 stands.....in other words , there is no need to move the eng foward to run the 350 t. there are however 3 lenghts on the 350 turbo(6 ,9, & 12") on the tail. here is a link

Re: double cking engins swap??

Crazy longhorn, I went and read what they have at the site, great link, and they list 2 different length power glides. Never knew there was 2 different length power glides. One power glide, the short one, is 25 23/64" long and the other, the long one, is 27 9/16" long. And they list the short th350 at 27 11/16" long. So if he has the short power glide he can move the engine forward on the v8 mounts when he installs the th350 or would have to leave it in the I6 position if he has a long shaft unless he gets a 9" th350.

Yea, I saw the different measures on the glide after I posted it! here goes, & Im runnin on memory from too many yrs back..... the early glide (till about 61), is not listed there, its cast iron. the 62-64 chevs that I played with had an aluminum glide, but it was a couple inches shorter. After 65 or 66 , there about the trans lenght was pretty standard (on the cars at least). Now I cant say for sure, but I think that anything 67 -69 on the trucks that still had the glide would have been the longer version. the shorter glide also had a coarse spline output shaft (if that helps), whereas the slip yolk on the longer glide was the same as a 350 t or 700 r4. Still the difference in position , from I 6 to sb is 3 1/2 " on the factory setup, so pulling the eng foward (to factory sb spot) wont make the # add up properly? you would still be about 1 1/4" off from what I see.... Re: double cking engins swap??

I can't remember what they call it, but it isn't a power glide.... 90% same, but that 10% will bite you in the ass if you buy a glide kit for it.
