Door not wanting to close

I am having problems with my drivers side door not wanting to close unless I hold it and push it in. I am thinking that I need to adjust the door striker but I dont know how. Whats the best way to adjust one?

Thanks

Re: Door not wanting to close

open the door half way. with your left hand grab the handle, with your right, grab the inside of the door. Try to lift straight up. If you get any movement at all, you need door pin/bushing kit. Worst case, your door has rotted out at the hinges. 3 of the 8 67-72's I own have bad doors at the hinges. You could have a problem with bad body bushings. If one is bad enough, it could tweak everything.

Oh, and to answer your question... What I do is mask the strike pin area off, and zap it with some white primer. I close the door a couple of times, and take note where the wear occurs. I do this unless it is way obvious where things are hitting. I then tweak as necessary.

What are you holding and pushing on? (My first thought was that you are pushing down the lock rod with the door open which locks the striker from moving at all. If you can lift up on the inside door handle and then try to shut it and it closes ok, that is what your problem is.)

I would try giving the striker and stuff a little bit of a lubrication bath first. Something might just be sticking a little.

I am holding the door handle up 1/2 inch. I will go with the lube to see where its hitting but I am starting to think its the hinges since I can move the door like masterbeavis said in his post.

Thanks

BTW, I have no idea where to find the bushings and pins. I have tried the local parts houses, but like usual, they dont have it anymore. One day I will search and find the answer. There is probably a writeup or two on the board, and on the internet.

Early Classic has them (and I think Brothers does as well).

Hey, a little lube goes along way. Sometimes that is all you need to fix a wide variety of problems.
