Ran for ten minutes for cam break-in before it farted thru the carb & ate the starter & battery,,barely had time to set timing,,had to go with a bigger battery,1075 cranking amps,.Now i'm looking for the starter with the steel nose & high heat solenoid,,,,Anybody got any part #'s,,O'rielly dont have em,Autozone either?
It did sound good while it ran though.

Looks awesome! I think you need a little more cam/lifter breakin time though. Id shoot for another 20 minutes in round 2. Keep us updated...

Re: Fired up the new rat yesterday

yup looks great..i agree you need more break-in time..

i burned up 5 boots on my rat the frist time i ran it..

heres a picture of the boots with the covers and the wire loom.i had to pull the wires tighter.

i installed the rap around heat shield on my mini starter i don't know if you can see it in this picture. the larger (stock) starter was just to close to the headers.. have had no problems with this mini starter in 4 years...

Re: Fired up the new rat yesterday

10/4 on the 20 minute break-in,,had the wife in the cab watching the temp & oil psi @2500rpm,,,she must've wiggled the gas & it backfired,,,battery was to weak to fire off again, drug the starter, tried to shim it,but noticed the gear was real sloppy on the shaft in the end of the nose cone,,was dancing around the new flywheel/flexplate,,,I priced a few mini's @ Summit today,,,hi dollar,,may have found the hi torque reg starter on NAPA's website,,will check on it tomorrow & keep y'all posted?
Thanks
JFD

Re: Fired up the new rat yesterday

Good luck on getting the starter replaced and getting the engine broke in.
