Cheap Tool chest?

Anyone know of a good place to look for a small or medium size WOODEN machinest chest or tool chest?

I want something with drawers to hold my gunsmith stuff and such and so far I havent seen what I'm looking for at a reasonable price.

Re: Cheap Tool chest?

Best wooden machinist chest on the market, heirloom/furniture grade stuff.

NOT cheap, makes SnapOn prices look like Harbor Freight. I realize this is beyond most all of us, but we can dream can't we?

Re: Cheap Tool chest?

I dont even want to know what those run. Very nice looking though.

That Harbor freight is what I am leaning towards, although I dont actually need one that size one with about 2-3 drawers would do. But that one may be what i go with if i dont find something different.

I'd love to have this one, but at almost $900 I dont think it meets the cheap criteria

Re: Cheap Tool chest?

how decorative are you looking for? When I first read the post my first thought was an old military foot locker. Most I have seen had atleast 1 removable "drawer" inside.. and enough room for 2.. and more than enough room underneath for any other larger tools... granted not the most beautiful thing.. but would work..

Re: Cheap Tool chest?

Sears website has some cheaper versions of the Gerstner chests, they are around $400-500 for the big roller or the top box.

Re: Cheap Tool chest?

Check craigslist, and maybe ebay (if thats still a viable option for deals these days). I just bought a Kennedy 520 off of C/L, and its full of expensive tools (Browne and Sharpe mic set, Mitutoyo and Starrett dial indicators, Fowler dial calipers) for $80. Its a very nice box, looks brand new and its a '69 (same as the truck, haha).
