Re: Power Steering too strong

Here's some good info. No specifics on truck boxes, but does show you the steering effort/ torsion bar specifications for the different diameters- referred to as "T" bars.

Re: Power Steering too strong

Thanks jeffspower, that's good info. Dad has a couple of early 80's 1 tons sitting in the field. I might try a box off of one of those before I spend money on a rebuilt one.

Re: Power Steering too strong

You might find one by luck- but it seems most of the 73-87 trucks had easy-steer or somewhere in the middle. The '88 in my avatar is the first truck I've had that gives heavy feedback. I don't know why GM put it in that long heavy truck- it makes my fingers tired on long trips- I'd rather have easy-steer on that truck. My '72 has the original box- & it's a middle-of-the-road box

I've got a box I saved off a '75 K10 shortbox- it took nothing to turn- even at a standstill. If you breathed too hard it would turn on ya

Re: Power Steering too strong

Heidt's Hot Rod Shop Makes an adjustable power steering valve to cut back on the amount of power assist to give more road feel.
