Picked up my C10 Project Truck

I finally got around to picking up this truck after much negotiation, weather delays, etc. I picked it up from the body shop where it has been for the past few years. I plan on tinkering with it, getting it running and rounding up some parts for it. Then a trip back to a body shop near by to finish it off. So it will be a while, at least a year and a half before I can save up the $$$ for the paint and body work. I plan on going original except for wheels and a few mild engine and exhaust mods. This truck will be driver when I finish.

Re: Picked up my C10 Project Truck

I do have the air cleaner, just had it off when I took the picture. I would like to keep the toolbox but the cover is one of the few still missing parts and I heard that it was in pretty bad shape. I will most likely cover it up with a replacement panel.

How common was it for a Chevy to have a GMC tailgate with a Chevrolet panel over it?

Nice Truck:

Stupid question though - what type/brand of trailer is that??? - how long? width? - looks to be a well made one.

Re: Picked up my C10 Project Truck

The red trailer is my neighbors. I just borrowed it for the truck haul because my "pipe top" would be a little tight and I would have to remove the bike mounts too. If you want, I can find out what brand it is tomorrow maybe. I know it weighs about 1850lbs empty, 18 feet long I believe, looks to be standard width and it seems well designed for vehicle hauling.

It wouldn't take much to make it road worthy again. I would need to start with a new windshield, prime it and then put it all back together.

Re: Picked up my C10 Project Truck

mine started out much the same as your's.. "get it running and maybe do a little body work to it" routine. i ended up doing an engine swap because i wanted more power and reliability.

Re: Picked up my C10 Project Truck

I finally had some time to mess with the truck today. I drained the tank and put in some fresh gas, filled the carb bowl with some gas too and got her running. I also topped off some of the fluids. The trans was so low it wouldn't even move.

I got to looking a little closer at the tailgate and it was definitely off of another truck (found some blue paint), It must have been replaced a long time ago.

I think I will remove the tint from the windows next.

Re: Picked up my C10 Project Truck

I have been getting a little work done to the truck this past month. I removed the tint and then it sat for a good while. I pulled off the wheels and put on some 15x8 rallys. I used the old tires and just had them turned around. Completely re-built the brakes only re-using the lines, the booster and propvalve. They were shot and alot of parts missing on the rears. I installed the front end body work, door latches and cleaned up under the hood some. I have driven it around about 5 miles or so. I found some worn out front end pieces and the front bumper is tweaked. I need to rebuild the carb too. The fuel line was already cut so I added another fuel filter because there is a lot of trash in the fuel tank coming up.

I can say one thing for sure, I haven't found any major problems yet and I am having a blast working on it!

I still have a lot to do but here are some up to date pictures:
