Edelbrock 600
Forthose of you who seen (read) my 1st thread thanks. I jsut went today and bought my engine 327 double hump ready to go in. My next question is the guy that is putting it in said I needed to buy the carb. and recommended the Edelbrock 600. I'm pretty mech. stupid and I know this will start a debate between brands Holly, Edey and so on. But what i need is is this a good carb. thanks

Re: Edelbrock 600
If you don't have much experience tuning carbs, the edelbrock is the way to go.
I use them because they are simple to set up, and will run right out of the box. As those ronco ads state "set it and forget it"

Re: Edelbrock 600
I"m about to try my first when I get my truck back together. From rebuilding it I say they are dead simple to work on, but I haven't started tuning yet.

I have the Edelbrock 1405. Bolted it on right out of the box and have had no trouble with it.

Re: Edelbrock 600
AKChevyman seemed to have foundsome good deals on amazon.com check out his thread engine and driveline forum. I have always been partial to holley being into the the racing end of things. They have also come out with there street avenger carbs that seem to be real good out of the box. In the end Personal opinions will change the answer that people will give. 600 to 650cfm would be a good choice IMO.

Re: Edelbrock 600
Edlebrock: easy to set up not for the horsepower or tuner guy.
Holley: easy to set up offers good tuning, balanced with ease Demon: mild to set up, offers excellent tuning, these are for those who are looking to get the best out of their engine. |

Re: Edelbrock 600
q jet would work good too but edelbrock is made for the avg joe so that its easy to change jets and springs with out having to check float bowls and gaskets like others
for the buck you cant go wrong with the edelbrock

Re: Edelbrock 600
I have had holleys and edelbrocks and quadrajets. Ive found that holleys are more for the all out racing. Edels are great right out of the box and perfect for a hotrod or a stocker. Qaudrajets are great for either if you know how to work on them. For the regular guy that doeant know how to really tune and wants something right out of the box and still work good on his stocker-to hotrod i would go edelbrock. They are very reliable.

Re: Edelbrock 600
Do not have a clue like I said I'm pretty stupid here. The guy just laughs at me that I bought the motor from. I went there to see how much he would charge to rebuild the motor I have and walked away buying this motor.

Re: Edelbrock 600
Do you mind if we ask how much you paid for the engine. Make sure the guy doesn't think he has a sucker to pass things off on.

Re: Edelbrock 600
if there are any markings on the intake (brand, model, firing order, etc.) post it, and we can tell you what will work with it.
a pic or two could be helpful too.

Re: Edelbrock 600
I paid $1800 for it. The guys I'm buying it from are pretty reputable they restore Chevy's and I consider them great guys I've known them for about 12 years. So hopefully they aren't going to pull one over on me. While putting the engine in they are going to give me a price to restore the truck as well. pic's coming soon.

Re: Edelbrock 600
If you trust the builder, go with his recommendation. Is he going to tune and adjust everything? If so, the edelbrock is what he's familiar with, knows, and is comfortable working on.

Re: Edelbrock 600
OK, Depending on whats in the bottom end of the engine I think that price is on yhe high end of things. Also what may have been done to the heads, They originaly came with non-hardened valve seats, and should have been changed out for a street driven engine of today. If thae bottom end has a standard stock rebuild, IMO being fresh rebuilt not worth much over 1/2 that price with what can be had in crate engines with a good warranty today. If they stand behind there work it would be worth more though. And I do agree as stated before If your mechanic is installing the engine and he is tuneing the engine for you and he recomended the edl. go for that he probably knows that carb which is why he suggested it. GOOD LUCK with your build and Truck.
