Were you raised in a truck driving family?

With the number of owners of the 67-72 Trucks growing I was wondering...were you raised on a farm where the truck was also a main source of transportation? Or did the fine lines of these trucks just catch your eye where you just had to have one. There is a magazine artice (I can't remember which one) that did an article saying these trucks are matching the 55-57 Chevys cars in looks, desire and collectability. I was raised on a farm and I can remember my Dad had a 54 Chevy 1/2 ton, a 72 C10 and his last truck was a 86 Chevy if I remember correctly. My Dad gave me the 54 and I sold it for $150.00 in 1976. I was just wondering?

i was raised in the city and my parents were professional white color people who never really had any cars ( my mom got my dad so fustrated when he drove that he refused to drive after only a couple trips with her in the car and he didnt get his license until he was 40 something) I loved the country and the way of life and ive always loved pickups i look at them as dual purpose vehicles and can go out on the town or do a days work with mine so i think its one of the more perfect vehicles ( unless i have the kids and grandkids around) i love the old chevies cause to me they have the most style

No, hot rods. Only trucks were those that my Uncles had on thier farms (F@rd F100 4x4 and International Flatbed Dump). Until I got back from Japan, I never had much dealings with them. I picked up a Ranger as my first truck (wish now I would have bought the 69 C10 LWB), and pretty much got hooked on having a BIG trunk. I don't think I have owned anything as a primary vehicle but a truck or truck like vehicle since 87.

the first truck i remember my dad driving was a 55 chevy napco 4x4 (he worked for the county agriculture department) then it was a 64 ford 4x4, 70 chevy 4x4 short stepside and finally a 78 dodge 4x4 til he retired. his personal trucks were a 60 chevy 2wd short fleetside (which my nephew still owns), 69 cst 2wd short fleetside, 72 scout II, 73 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4, 77 blazer 4x4 (which i now own), 79 blazer 4x4, 98 tahoe 4x4, and an 02 silverado 4x4, the last two he still has. in the middle of these were a few jeep cj's he used for hunting, now we use honda quads,lol.
my first truck was a 47 jeep cj-2a, a 73 4x4 short fleetside , a 69 bronco, a 69 chevy 4x4 short stepside, my 72 cheyenne super K/20, my 72 cheyenne K/20--the last two i still have. and finally over 200 other 67-72s that were either sold complete or parted out. also had a few 73-91 pickups, blazers and suburbans that i parted out.
yeah, i've been raised around trucks my whole life.

I learned to drive in a 54 chevy car 3 speed on the tree and 6 cyl.I had a Chrysler New Yorker and a Vista Cruiser wagon in high school,then a 66 Impala SS.After that it's always been a truck.74 Dodge,67 Chevy Panel,90 Dodge Dakota,91 Chevy S10,00 Dodge Dakota,00 Blazer,and 68 Chevy Panel.I've owned some others but these were my main trans .I grew up with Farmers and rural types on both sides of the family.The rest were tradesmen so trucks were more or less a part of life for everyone.My dad had a 50 Dorf with a Buick straight 6.My uncle had a 54 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 292 from a later model.
My Dad and step dad were also "Livestock Relocation Engineers"

There were a few trucks around, my dad had an 80 something ford ranger he had for a while then got rid of, my grandfather had an 80 something ford f150 he kept for like 25 years in the best condtion I had ever seen. I think it looked better then when it was bought on the show room floor when he traded it in for his 05 GMC 1500 and my other grandfather had quite a few chevy z71 seems he upgrades to a new one every 3 years or so.

Learned to drive ,,,,,FORD (sorry) Jubilee tractor. That thing was my freedom !!!!!! I could bush hog or disk or plow and nothing else mattered !!!!

'64 chevy ton flat bed ,,,,,hauled cordwood ,,,,,it was a work horse,,,,had to double shift to get in gear !!!!

well my dad had a few different trucks while i was growing up, a 69 c-10 long bed olive green with white top, and a late 60s dodge, a 67 chevy long bed that was ragged out,a couple of mids 70s trucks,but the truck that really did it for me was he had a 72 cheyenne red and white long bed dual pipes with a 350-350 combo i mean this truck was decked out and when i turned 15 he said look son i know you like this truck and i have others so if you want it i will sell it to you yes i had to buy it but i was more than happy to do it of course he only made me pay like 500 for it i drove the heck out of that thing til i blew the motor then me and a freind rebuilt the motor and of course i had to add some of my own touches to the truck along the way finally i blew the motor again and needed money so i sold the truck for $100 and have kicked myself in the butt ever since. i love the 667-72 chevys but really the cheyenne i love them so much that i named my daughter cheyenne now she says i cant believe that you named me after a truck lol ok enough of my rambling bye 4 now

I was raised in the city but my dad always had F*rds so I was kinda tramatized because they would always hold up to their name( found on road dead) LOL . Now I have a grudge against them.

Grew up around Chevy trucks and Suburbans as a child. Mostly models from 77-89 as I was born in 73. I remember seeing a picture of my Dad's 69 SWB 4x4 w/a campershell and falling in love. Those images made me a believer. I can't get my mind off of them. I need help...

I was born and raised on a farm in Southeast Missouri.

My first vehicle was a 1956 Ford 3/4 ton pickup with a stepside bed I bought when I was 16.

I guess I have owned a truck of one kind or other most of my life. I would feel lost if I did not have a pickup.

I left the farm for 32 years and lived in cities, but in 1996 I returned back to the farm I grew up on.

I now own two trucks, a 92 GMC K-3500 and a 71 C-10. Of course I am always looking for another one.

Have a '55 1st series my first vehicle - bought it in '73 for $200.00 - it was still the stock red color, but thrashed. Loaded that sucker with pumpkins one halloween and used them to bomb mailboxes until we got caught. Had a lot of fun in that old truck. My dad had a new '65 El Camino, and a '69 4X4 International with a camper on it - other than that, he never drove trucks. I guess that first chevy pickup was the one that sold me.

my dad had a 75 datsun pickup when i just a wee one till it was wrecked (i was in it when it happened) then he had a vw vanagon for a while and 7 years ago he got a 80 dodge d50 pickup that he just sold a week ago and he has a 92 ford explorer now, BUT my brother had a 59 ford f-100 longbed that he still has just in storage and i remember him taking me to elementery school in it, then he got a 90 ford f-350 crewcab longbed 4x4 deasil till 2 years ago when he bought a 05 f-250 supercrew longbed 4x4 deasil which he has now, so yea id say i grew up around trucks

Both my Grandfathers and my DAD drove trucks. I love them too and I am sure my son will carry on the tradition. Good Thread!!!!!

Yes here. We weren't country, but we were past just being suburban. My dad drove a truck, my uncles all drove trucks, my dad's friends drove trucks. I remember starting school, and when I met kids whose dad's drove cars, I thought something was wrong with them.

I grew up in Farm country,(nebraska) but dad was the butcher at Safeway in town. he drove cars all the time, GM cars. mom never did get her drivers licence. my brother had a 53 5 window when I was 11 years old, we would go out on gravel roads and he would get out of the drivers side and let me drive the truck, that was soo cool. then at 14 I bought a 47 chevy Panel delivery for $100.00 and Ive had a few 53 5 windows from time to time and it just continues on

No, I was raised in a family that didnt care about vehicles.They were for transportation only. But on the other side of th ecountry my dad ALWAYS had cool cars.70 340 cuda,63-66 novas,bigblock this,six pak that,drag cars,and so on.So I always dreamed of having a cool car or truck. I have had every Nova from 62 to 74 except a 66-67-My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! I love these old Chevy trucks,and yes I have a soft spot for 67-72 Ford trucks too.

As much as I love and respect the hard work it takes to run a farm, no unfortunately I don't have one. There were alot of farms around in my town (Old Bridge N.J.) and surrounding towns but somewhere around 1975 they started moving way to developers fast I remember the smell of the crops,farm animals seeing all the old & new trucks and farm equipment while driving around as a kid, going to these farms with my parent getting manure and starter plants. My dad never had a truck but his 67 Chevy Caprice was the next best thing, 14 good years always loaded down. As for me, my first set of wheels,$1,400.00 '65 Nova and a $350.00 68 Chevy C-10 back in '83. Loved that truck and every new Chevy I got after. '87 4x4 loaded then stolen so I put my '68 back on the road . Then a '80 2wd for a while till 93 when I got a used 92 loaded 2wd ext cab with 14,000 miles also stolen but found again. 250,000 miles later I got me a new 03 2wd quad cab,Chevy of course. O-yeah and the best of all IMO my project 67 2wd short fleet small window , my first love since five years old. I could go on but , save space for others. Defintely a good conversation piece.
