just get one made custom. Its not worth the effort to hunt and search for one that "might work". I got mine made for $220 iirc, brand new, yolk and all

Re: How Long is Your Shaft?? (All 1 pc. Drive Shaft Guys)

i was told that a small block mounted in the foward holes with a 350 turbo tranny requires a drive shaft of 60" from end to end (including the shaft and the loops on each end) on a short wheel base truck. the same reliable person told me it was only available in a 6 cylinder short wheel base truck all others had 2 drive shafts hope that helps

Mine is too short, but don`t tell anyone. The best thing is to get it all mounted and measure.Go to shop with your shaft in hand and tell them what you need.

Re: How Long is Your Shaft?? (All 1 pc. Drive Shaft Guys)

I was afraid that I may need a custom one, since oil is boomming in Alberta labour rates are killer, it"ll be about $150/hr to get one built.
i guess I'll have to slap it together and measure it up..
but how much slack do I need on the output shaft to allow for suspension travel or movement?

I want to say that mine was 71" from end to end (i.e. center of u-joint on yoke to same on other side). This was on an inline 6 with 3spd on tree. Just so happened to be a perfect fit for my LS1 + T56 as well - who'da thought?

For play, figure fully extended to fully compressed measurement.Let`s say it`s 4" of movement, divide that in half...2" and you`ll be good. That`s what the guy that handled my shaft told me.

Re: How Long is Your Shaft?? (All 1 pc. Drive Shaft Guys)

Easy way to measure what you'll need is to take both yokes and insert them fully into the gearbox and tailshaft. Slide them each out 1" and measurefrom the center of one U-joint provision to the other.

If you can get this measurement, any driveshaft within 1-2" of that length should suffice, as long as your U-joint is the same size.

Re: How Long is Your Shaft?? (All 1 pc. Drive Shaft Guys)

Here's what I can tell you from this weekends experience installing my 700R4...
The driveline shop I used wanted the measurement from the tailshaft seal on the transmission to the centerline of the rear-end yoke. For me, with the 700R4, this was 58-3/4".

If you want my driveshaft dimension, just tell what exactly you want (center to center, etc.) and I can get it...it's in the truck, but simple enough.
