Ye Old DASH Problem - PO chopped the radio area...

Dear Board,

I have read over the last few days the opinions of many on this amazing site, whether to chop the dash or not.

It is interesting, and for me, to each his own. (I understand each vehicle is in different shape, and the opportunity to modify increases with conditions).

However, always believed something in good orig condition, shouldn't be cut for some reason.

Unfortunately, my 71 without AC is butchered, and I wish to provide a more stock feel on the dash.

Nearly the entire recessed area is cut out, (got to wonder what the hell they put in it...)

(* The PO had it covered roughly with a cheap oil-temp guage set up)

Seen many photos of the stock dash, but no actual measurements of the original pressed radio area.

Could someone do a quick measurement?

Or perhaps post a scanned rubbing of an uncut original, in actual size, in a jpeg attachment?

Sure, I probably have to get another uncut dash, but curious if we cannot fabricate a close replacement.

Need to know the depth of the recess as well, and the original curved shape of the area too.

I understand woodgrain stickers are available, and will use this as a replacement if I have nothing else.

Or maybe someone who cut their Truck, is not interested in keeping the piece of metal, and would be willing to sell.

Thank you sincerely,
Best wishes.

That's actually mine for sale on ebay. it's in nice shape. I ended up getting a complete A/C dash, which saved me from cutting out vent holes for the side vents, etc.

Technically, this patch is for an AC dash. It has the hole for the center vent. Thanks.

Re: Ye Old DASH Problem - PO chopped the radio area...

going to be outbid...

not a man of great wealth you see...

would prefer to buy a whole new dash for the kind of price the bidder has driven up the price on ebay.

wonder if anyone on the board has the measurements to fabricate the original radio area?

or, if they know of a cheaper replacement item?

thanks...
