Question for sound system GURU`S

Hi from Wisconsin,
I am looking for some sound system advise...First let me tell you what I have..
1972 1/2 ton SWB with gas tank behind seats. Seats are 2002 Lincoln Navigater 8 way heated.(not much room underneith)..Center console is a 2000 ford f150 extended cad, heavily modified.....I bought the Poineer DEH-P9000MP 50 X 4 deck, and the TS-A6971R 6X9 3 way speakers......The 6X9s are mounted in the doors with some light plastic baffles that I bought for protection.(drilled 4, 3/16 holes in them for vents) NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!
With my limmited space, what can I do too make this MFer rock?????I have about a $1000.00 budjet for this system. I see I could get 2, about 6" speakers in the side of the center console....Amp??????
Please help me as I dont know a thing about sound systems....

If your deck is enough for the speakers you have, you could get a small amp and a single sub to improve the lower end. If you look at digital amps, they don't put off heat, so you can mount them anywhere too. The glove box might be an option, but without seeing the truck, I'm not sure where you have space.

Your best bet is to go to a shop and have them take a look. Don't go to Circuit City or some other big name, stick to a local guy and see what else they have done.

Well, nothing is going to rock with two 6x9's. Here's what I would do. Find a place to mount an amp. Maybe you could get one under the seat. Get a 4 channel amp. Bridge two of the channels for a sub. Put the sub in the center console firing down. Then get rid of those 6x9's and get a component system which is a mid and a tweeter. Get one with a 6.5" mid. Mount the mid and the tweeter in custom made kickpanels. They will give you the best sound and you won't have to cut anything! This system will sound awesome.

I am planning on mounting 4x6 plates in the rear pillars like in 88-98 standard cab pickups.

Move the tank to under the bed, that alone will give you plenty of space behind the seat. The kit is about 289 I wanna say... LMC.

!I should be able to get a small amp inside the center consol, or under the seats....What type of amprage of an amp????? I already cut my doors, so I have too keep the 6x9s....How about more speakers in the doors?(6" max)????I will not relocate the tank.....6" subs in both sides of console?????

It is custom made by mjs_customs out of 7075-T6 3/32 billet alum. Looks nice,Hey????

With that gas tank back there there is no way you can fit subs. I'd show you a picture of what I did but my truck is in the body shop. I fabbed my own special center console out of MDF that houses two RE SX 12" subs. Amp mounted on the back side of it. If you are willing to lose that console, I can help you find a great budget sub/amp combo. For the mids and highs (6x9) you can either get another set of components (5" or 6.5") and power them from the H/u, or get a small 50 x 2 amp for them. They don't need much more than that. You can always PM me here or msg me on aim, yahoo, or msn...

Edit: No that isn't considered a sub. Its a midbass.

Yeah, put one 10" sub in the center console. The big speaker in your 6x9 is far from a sub. That would be a midrange in the 6x9. If you don't like the kickpanels and want to still tryout the components I mentioned, you could build a baffle out of MDF and mount the tweeter and the mid to the baffle and then attach the baffle to the door.

Yep I got the same thing from a wrecked kenworth truck we had out back and did a little cutting and got the same effect. It was aluminum also. Good looking ride you have there. With the limited space you have you want to be able to get a lot of lows it the 6" subs and 6x9's. However you can have one hell of a bust your eardrums loud set up. Get a quality componet set with 6.5's for the doors, replace the factory spearker with the one you can get from lmc or where ever, get a 6 or 8 in sub that will fit in the console and a quality (rockford fosgate) 4 channel amp and hook it all up and you will rock. Run the replacement factory speaker with the radio and the 6x9's. Bridge 2 of the channels on the amp to the sub in the console and run the componets off the other 2 channels. I would say get at least a 250 RMS amp for this setup. This should be clear, loud and rock your socks off. You won't have a lot of bass but highs and mids will be of some excellent quality. It would be nice if you had 2 amps and use one for the 6x9's becasue you can make a quality set of them sound pretty good. I would use quality speakers like JBL,infinty,kicker, or alpine. For cheap subs that have great quality... check out Audioque. They are made by the same company that makes Digital Designs subs. If you don't know what a DD sub is, they're anywhere from 400-1200 each, depending on the model. You can get an audioque SD2 for about 150 I think

Here's what I have behind my seat where the tank used to be, I also have kick panels speakers, that face towards you, I have a 6 channel Alpine amp under passenger seat, & a 10 disk changer under the drivers side seat, with a 6 channel amp you can combine the 5 & 6 & that up;s the power to really drive a nice sub, or 2 subs is better, & the other 4 channels can drive the 4 6.5's.

I would like to chime in with "jlaird" and what he said. I put a system into my Ford boxvan,(think U-haul truck) that was somewhat similar. I used 6x9 Infinity Kappas in the doors and a 10" Cerwin Vega "free-air" sub firing downward in the center console. The free-air subs do not require an enclosure. This was powered by a 4-channel Rockford Fosgate 240 watt amp split to 60 watts to each door speaker and 120 to the sub. I'm using a "middle of the road" Blaupunkt deck and changer. The results are staggering.
The sound quality is superb and if you crank it up you think the windows are going to pop out. The price for the amp, sub and 6x9's is less than $700.00 and could be used with your Pioneer deck with equal results.

personally, i would use the sub i listed earlier, as JL Audio has designed it to work specifically with that console, make the most out of the space you have.
I had one of these console stealth boxes in my 96 burb, and it sounded great.

As far as the amp wattage, you will need to decide what speakers you will be using, then choose an amp to match the wattage of the speakers.

I would not put an amp inside the console, as they generate heat, and tend to require airflow to avoid damage. typically under the seat is a good choice.

I agree with brak. In my first Toyota truck, I built a console that had a rear facing 8" sub and it made the cab rock well. JL makes a tight sub, I used 3 10"s in my BMW with great response.
