Factory Skid Plates

Were skid plates only offered on Blazers & Jimmys as a set(t-case/gas tank)?Or,was the t-case skid plate available for the pickups?
And,these were "factory" options listed on the VIN-spec sheets, right?

Re: Factory Skid Plates

I have a Blazer with both and it just says "Skid plate" on the option list. You must have got both with a Blazer or Jimmy???

Re: Factory Skid Plates

I see it listed as an option in my Blazer GM Restoration pack (NA4), but not in my pickup GM Restoration pack.

Good question!

Re: Factory Skid Plates

I`ll have to check the parts book. The question came up and I honestly don`t know the word on this.Joe,that`s what I`ve seen,"skid-plate".They didn`t get all wordy on those sheets,but...I believe on a K/5 it was the package, that`s one question. The pther is,did the t-case come on a pickup?I have seen a Suburban with the skid-plate option.I don`t know if there was a t-case plate.I`d assume it did originally.

Talking Re: Factory Skid Plates

i have only seen them factory equipped on blazers---i'm not saying pickups didn't get them from the factory but i've never seen one. the only one i've seen on a pickup was aftermarket--not on the build sheet and it didn't use a second crossmember like the factory version. i know this doesn't answer the question but just my 2cents.

Re: Factory Skid Plates

Yeah,I`ve never seen one on a pickup.I haven`t seen them all....yet.I`ve bought them from Cepek in the past.I definately saw the option on a`71 K/20 Suburban.
Dustin,I just had to ask.

Re: Factory Skid Plates

The skid plate is only listed for Blazers in`71 dealer order book. They are listed as "Plate" for gas tank, the t-case just comes along.I know I saw "Skid-Plate" listed on this Suburban I looked at.It was real loaded, but too rusty...a shame.

Re: Factory Skid Plates

i have one factory unit and a fellow board member made duplicates of the plate itself but you need the rear crossmember. turns out the rear crossmember is the same as the one used on 67-69 longbed 4x4s under the carrier bearing. he made me 4 or five of the plates and i've gathered a few of the correct crossmembers for the rear. the plates he made are exact duplicates of the original--without 30+ years of grease, dirt, etc.

Re: Factory Skid Plates

I always thought the rear skidplate crossmember looked like the t case crossmember.Did the second crossmember, for the skidplate, have only a lower portion to mount to the frame?Or did it have a upper portion too, like the t case crossmember? Here is what I have, from a 72 CST K5 supposively. Is it all there?I had no clue how rare it was,I knew they werent plentiful, but just got this cheap.I got a np205,TH350,t case skidplate, both crossmembers, for $150

Re: Factory Skid Plates

the skid plate rear crossmember only uses the lower portion not the upper side pieces

My 68 had a smaller skid plate that was attached to the lower crossmember in this pic. I'll get pics later...

Re: Factory Skid Plates

Does your truck have it listed as an option?I have one left that I bought Dick Cepek. It`s about 12" wide and has a "kick-up" at the front. There`s a hole in the bottom to access the one t-case mounting bolt. It`s a much nicer piece than the factory one.I also have a gas tank skid-plate that was mounted on the`72 Blazer I have.I believe it`s aftermarket, too.

Re: Factory Skid Plates

my black 72 has one as spec k described with a angle and a hole in it, nothing listed on glovebox although who knows how many gloveboxes the truck has had, although the skid plate looks factory as can be. ill try and get a pic to add.actually found one in a junkyard picked it up off the ground and sit it against a tree .maybe will have to go back and get it, but with the price of scrap metal .

Re: Factory Skid Plates

Just realized I never posted pics of mine...

I don't think it's on the option sheet but it had this smaller skid plate under the TC. And yes it's the same crossmember as the tanny without the upper braces.
