The 180* is a good starting point.
with my 185* ,I've driven in all conditions,from the mild temps in the 70's-80's on the California coast to the hot hot temps in Pheonix in August to now the cold temps here in Ontario Canada and the highest the gauge has gone is half way. Half way is about 200* on these gauges. I guess it also depends on how well your cooling system is working. Stick a 180* in and see if your engine likes it.If not,change it.
