Does anybody know the limitations on bumper height for Missouri residents. I am just cusrious aabout it for my friends dodge he plans on lifting.

Here's another state that uses the GVWR as the bumper-height guideline. For vehicles 4,500 pounds and under, the front bumper can't be taller than 24 inches and the rear must see no more than 26 inches. For 4,501 to 7,500 pounds, it's 27 inches front and 29 rear, and for 7,501 to 9,000 pounds, it's 28 and 30 inches.

How about over 9,000#?Are one tons exempt?They are in my state.

Thanx for the info powerdriver. I thought they were higher but the guys I hang with really don't crunch numbers, its the educated eye way of measuring...

about 15 years ago a buddy of mine had an truck that was lifted and the Saint Joseph Missouri cops at the time didn't bother him for height of the bumpers but height of the headlights.seems the city had made their own laws

Before lift laws they tryed to get me for the wheel opening not covering 180 degrees around the tire.I told the judge a stock 1/2t 2wd body sits that high and so do cars.I got off.

it doesn't take much to hit the limit does it. I was measuring on my truck just to see where I will be, 6 in of lift and 35's and I will be close. But I plan in 4 in and 33's. My buddy doesn't have his truck back yet to see how high he can go.

Are those GVWR by the manufacturer or by DMV license?

I'm guessing it's according to the sticker on the door post of "our" trucks? (67-72)

Or do the rating on the license plates not have anything to do with it? (I run BL12,000lb plates on everything, including my S-10....Hahaha. Don't have to wear seatbelts that way!)

In Maryland 1/2 & 3/4tons come through at 7,000#.You can register up to 10,000#.1 tons are @ over 10,000 and you can go to 13,000#.The laws break @ the over 10,000# line.

Bumper Law for Missouri on 9001 lbs. GVWR to 11,500 lbs GVWR is 29 inch limit on front and 31 inch limit on rear bumper. These are based on the Manufacturers Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Usually found on the outer door or under the striker plate. License weight does not have anything to do with the law.

Altering passenger motor vehicle by raising front or rear of vehicle prohibited, when--bumpers front and rear required, when--violations not to pass inspection--penalty--certain vehicles exempt.
307.172. 1. No person shall operate any passenger motor vehicle upon the public streets or highways of this state, the body of which has been altered in such a manner that the front or rear of the vehicle is raised at such an angle as to obstruct the vision of the operator of the street or highway in front or to the rear of the vehicle.

2. Every motor vehicle which is licensed in this state and operated upon the public streets or highways of this state shall be equipped with front and rear bumpers if such vehicle was equipped with bumpers as standard equipment. This subsection shall not apply to motor vehicles designed or modified primarily for off-highway purposes while such vehicles are in tow or to motorcycles or motor-driven cycles, or to motor vehicles registered as historic motor vehicles when the original design of such vehicles did not include bumpers nor shall the provisions of this subsection prohibit the use of drop bumpers. The superintendent of the Missouri state highway patrol shall adopt rules and regulations relating to bumper standards. Maximum bumper heights of both the front and rear bumpers of motor vehicles shall be determined by weight category of gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) measured from a level surface to the highest point of the bottom of the bumper when the vehicle is unloaded and the tires are inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure. Maximum bumper heights are as follows:

Well i just checked and i guess there's no use trying to get mine street legal, bottom of rear 34" and front is 32"

Kind of off subject,but has anyone else noticed how much inspections have tightened up in this state?We enjoyed a lax situation for a long time,but I went yesterday and got turned down 3 times for not having cats on my 89.I can't remember that EVER being checked before.

Maybe you have just been lucky, I had an 81 that I upgraded the grille to a 91 blazer and the guy tried to flunk mine cuz of no cats. It was a hell of an ordeal but I got thru it.

Around here it is impossible to get a V8 S-10 passed even doing it according to how the state wants it done. And you have to "know" someone to get anything to go without cats period. I am putting a 91 blazer frontend on my 77 crew cab project and I am already anticipating the issue of no cats 500 caddy and 2wd cab on a 4x4 running gear. Screw em I got pics of the whole thing. A picture is worth a thousand words ya know.
