Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

Came across a 70 CST cab today. It has some holes in the ds rocker, and needs rear and probably front cab supports. Top and rain gutter are solid. All glass is there, bench seat, solid floors, and pretty nice doors. No dash, pedals etc. The back of the cab looks like the bed hit it at one time, but its not too bad, and may be able to be pushed back out. Above the heater core area on the firewall there is a crack/rusty area thats not real bad either. I think my K5 is rusting there too. Id like to put this cab on my 72K5 frame. Can I put my high hump tunnel on this cab for my shifters and basically drop it on. Will the cab mounts line up with the K5? This cab can be mine for about $350. Since these are getting harder to find, should I jump on it, or should I hold out for a better one. Didnt take any pics, but I think I described it pretty well. Opinions welcome!
thanks.

Too bad that you are on the other side of the country. I have one that I would give you. It is going to the recycler this week!

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

So,you want to go from a blazer to a blazer frame and truck cab?The rear mounts for the cab from a truck will need to be switched over to the blazer chassis. The tranny hump hole is the same, the 2wd auto trucks had a welded in low hump though. The 4x4s and floor shifts had the high hump that bolts in.So,what do you plan to do bed wise?

Im probably just going to build a flatbed out of tubing and diamond plate with built in tire carrier and high lift jack mounts etc. Not sure what you mean about the cab mounts though. Could you expand on that a bit?

Does it have to be CST? I'm not sure how rare they are. If you are just looking for a good 67-72 cab , you can do a lot better.

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

i dont see why it matters if its a cst cab, its obdviously not on the truck and will need bodywork and such, and im sure it doesnt com with a title, so what diffreence would it make? the only thing i'd be concerned about is the actual condition of it, and if it has a/c or not.

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

The cab we have talked about is in better shape than that but not as complete. It does have rocker and cab corner rust, and a little in the fire wall but cab supports are solid. I pm you will have pix soon.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

Sounds good Steve, looking forward to seeing them. I dont care what year cab I get, but if its a 70-72, all my dash parts, column and pedals should all transfer right in. I also dont care about A/C for now. Can always get aftermarket for about $1200. I just really wanted one that doesnt need too much bodywork, as Im going to have to pay someone to handle that part for me.

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

$350 is a little rich, I bought my cab for $100 and it has very little rust. It's not a CST and it doesn't have air. If you could figure a way to pick it up, I'd give you the cab I pulled off...but it's pretty rusty.

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

That rear cab damage can be near impossible to fix. Then, there`s all the other rust areas you mentioned. The guy`s got nothing and he wants $350.What does that make a rustfree cab worth?

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

Thanks for the pics Steve....and to all that offered up cabs for free, etc. The one Im looking at is actually pretty nice, all things considered. A nice rust free cab with doors and glass....Id say at least $800. Id gladly pay that for a really nice one. Im going to offer $300 and see if the guy bites. If he does, and put some pics.

Eric, it needed rockers but sorry, I hauled it off to the recycler today.

Re: Whats a '70 cab worth? should I buy it?

I gave away a rustfree cab that had back panel damage. After showing it to several bodymen,I decided it wasn`t worth fixing. The estimates were from $800-1,500.I gave it to the guy for parting out the truck.By the time you figure all the other work, that cab`s going to cost you more than $800.I`m not saying the cab`s not salvageable, but it ain`t worth $300 IMHO.
