anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

hey guys, its been a while since ive been on here, ive been trying to get this 67 swb done for summer, and everything possible has just been a pain. its been a 2 year project just trying to get the body shop to paint the truck , now im just waiting on the tailgate and cowl

its starting to become the point of, ive have done so much work to this truck. im actually losing interest in it, and start to not like it anymore. ive put so many hours into working on it and pretty much all of my money, and its no where to close to being done.

i think i just need a break from it, but wondering if anyone else ever feels this way?

Matt

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

There are times when it seems like it'll take forever and doesnt seem worth it, but think of the gratification you're gunna have when its done, i mean all that work done by you, it's probably a pretty good feeling.

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

I know that feeling well, but when I get burnt out on one it seems like I get a different project and start on that. Now it seems like I have like five projects and it's taking forever to get one running.

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

I remember feeling like that but now I've learned to cope better. Stepping back for a day or 2 is always something that I do as things are not so intense when you do this. The 67 wheel I just restored I call this premature gratification why you ask, because sometimes it feels good to finish a part when you are on a long project. Gives you the boost needed to carry on the long haul.

LOL on the project as it looks pretty good from what I can see.

i had to do that today... got frustrated with my welder and said screw it... went inside for a while, ate lunch and then headed back outsid and finished my boxside welding.

it seems like the times im most motivated to work on it is when i only have like an hour or two to work on it, and then when i have all day sunday i cant ever focus and/ or seem to get anything major done

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

Pretty sure we have all been there at some point. I sometimes walk away from mine for too long but thats how I am. I like having a project as much as having a nice toy. When its done (well, done as they ever are) I lose a little interest in them so if its not done it gets my full attention. Ill probably start another truck when, I mean, IF this one ever gets that far...

Exclamation Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

This one is a life long project. This just sit's off to the side of my shop .... I just got really tired of the energy that this car draws out of me. Like my signiature say's about my 70' ("This truck has just the right amount of energy for me.") This hobby of ours is about having fun & the 60' Vette seem's too intense .... when this changes I'll start working on her again.

esll.

* The picture of the Vette complete is when I purchased it back in 1970.

* The rolling chasis picture is the stage of the restoration project that I'm @ now.

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

Dude, I get burned out all the time. But all I have to do is look at some of the work that others have put into their trucks, or projects like "Lemon Drop" and I get motivated again. Car/Truck Shows gets me going as well, seeing different trucks gives me ideas and inspiration. Heck, I just worked on my truck for the first time in about 6-7 months. The firewall was already painted but I decided I wanted it shaved and the wire gutter capped off, so I spent the weekend grinding and welding, welding and grinding (till my 4 1/2 DeWalt grinder went to tool shed heaven). I just ordered $45 in parts for it so I hope to be grinding again next weekend.

Just take a breather now and again, you'll get back into it again.

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

I actually came into this thread with a different thought.
I "sometimes" wish I wouldn't have spent so much effort on my truck because it makes it not as fun of a daily driver. I enjoy driving it, but its a drag sometimes having to worry about every rock, ding, parking lot, and everything. Sometimes I just wish it was still just an old truck.

But, it is awful nice having a powerful machine that turns a few heads now and then too.

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

I've been there too. First bought my truck in Feb 2004, put about 3 months into it to clean it up, drop it, and replace alot of trim and chrome. Drove it 5 times before I got hit by a drunk. Talk about taking the wind out of your sails!

Tore it down, had the cab blasted, started some metal work, then ran out of steam. Started back on it a few months later with a new frame and got cranking again, then lost steam again. It comes and goes. It's been 3 years for me so far. I just got the body work almost completed this weekend, and it will be ready to paint soon. So there is light at the end of the tunnel!

It seems that when you are on the uphill side of the battle (teardown, fixing rust, fixing everything else) it's easy to lose interest, want to get rid of it, just can't invision it ever being completed. I've been there. Tried selling mine twice now. BUT, know that I am on the downhill side now, and I know that paint is next, which can only mean one thing..... assembly comes soon! THAT'S when you will start to get excited! When you think of all the time, late night hours, busted knuckles, welding burns on the top of your head, and then you start to see the beast appearing, it's becomes a lot more easy to get pumped!

Hang in there. Take a breather, work on it when you can, maybe dedicate a weekend that no matter what, you will do something to it. Make a list of things to do to it for that weekend, and stick to the list. Seing progress will definately lift you up!

Bob

Re: anyone ever done so much work to a truck you dislike it?

yep, I think it's normal to get burned out. I know I do. When I feel that way I just let things sit for a while until I get motivated again and it seems when I do that I get more done in the same amount of time anyway. Good Luck.
