i am still having my overheating problem. i put a bigger radiator in but still no change. i have replaced my new thermostat. the only thing i can think of is the fact that it has no fan shroud. but i just have a hard time believing that because ive seen alot of cars and trucks run with no shroud. i just hope its not a cracked head or blown head gasket. i can make it almost all the way around the block then it starts getting hot. could it be the water pump? please help.

It could be the water pump. Are you loosing water anywhere? Is your engine stock? What part of TX are you from? I might be able to help you out with a shroud.

i am in fort worth too. between lake worth and saginaw and lake worth to be exact. it is not stock, it had an IL6 in it originally. now it has a 350. the radiator has a few pin holes in it but alumaseal would fix it. that would be great. i have a shop full of parts if you might wanna trade?

Are you sure you are overheating ? I had an older Stewart_Warner temp gauge that showed I was over heating, chaged a few things,only to find it was my gauge. My truck has no fan shroud but is a 6 cly. If you want a fan shroud you can get a universal one from a speed shop. Good luck Sal

Maybe the Alumaseal is plugging up your radiator. Have you tried flushing the system? You may have to take it in to be cleaned and repaired.

this radiator is not worth it. but the system never had any alumaseal in it, at least not since ive had it. im getting a 84 chevy for free and somebody told me they put a 88 radiator and shroud in there truck. so im gonna try to put the 84 radiator and shroud in mine. im also gonna replace the water pump while im at it. if that doesent fix it then i got bigger problems. Does your coolant resivoir have a return? or is it just dumping it? My buddy had a van that didnt have a return so when his van spit the overflow out he was loosing to much coolant and overheating pretty regularly.

even though its new, your thermostat still could be defective.
I would test your thermostat.

Hewlett, before you toss the radiator out of the 84 chevy into your truck, fill it with a couple of gallons of distilled vinegar. I know this sounds funny - but it really does work! Lay the radiator on the ground face down with the radiator cap on, inlet and outlet hoses up. Fill it with the vinegar, then let it sit for at least 24 hours ( the longer it sits, the more it will dissolve ), when you pour out the contents it will no longer be clear but a rather nasty brown/green color.

Be sure to flush the radiator with lots of water, as this will finish flushing the dislodged/loosened gunk left inside. This doesn't harm the radiator in any way, just breaks up all the crap inside and leaves you with clean tanks and a clear(er) core. I have been doing personally for years with good results as a cooling system clean up.

What kind of fan are you using. If its an aftermarket flex fan, trash it. The stock clutch fan is the best especially with no shroud. If you ARE using a stock clutch fan, try putting a new clutch on the front of it, as they do go bad. I know they are not pretty, but they actually are the best for cooling purposes.

hewlett2002000, check your water pump first. start your motor when cool remove the radiator cap fill water level to where you can see it then goose it a little. you should see the water flowing strong in the radiator. also there is a drain hole on the bottom of the water pump. if it is stained or rusty like water has been leaking pump no good.

You are probably running a temp sender from that 350 and not the original L6. The resistance is differnt in that sender. I had that problem and had to use a 32 ohm resister to get it right and it still wasn't right, could have used a 33 even... Best way to check is to run the engine with the cap off and look to see if the coolant flows through the radiator when the thermostat opens and stick a thermometer in there and take areading that way.. But like suggested above, check and make sure the thermostat is working. Take it out and stick it in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens..
