Who said you can't do this?

Who said you can't pull a motor out with the hood still on? On my way to the 383 build. Thanks for helping out 70c10.......

Re: Who said you can't do this?

Why not just take off the hood? Let's a lot more light shine in on the subject....

Glad I could help Steve. The "twist and tilt" method works great, huh?

Jim_PA, Steve's truck has near perfect panel alignment and it was easier to just to pull the motor carefully instead of the aggravation later of realigning everything.

One other thing 70GMCer didn't mention was the motor was pulled and disassembled to a bare block in about 5 hours or so.

Re: Who said you can't do this?

Here's a little trick to help with panel re-alignment. Presuming that you have excellent hood gaps and don't want to "mess them up", without loosening any bolts anywhere, take an 1/8" drill bit and drill 1 small hole through your hinge and through the metal where it bolts up to the hood. One hole on each hinge. Then just take the hood off. Once you are ready to re-install the hood, just get the hood on close and then take an 1/8" pop rivet or drill bit or whatever and get both holes re-aligned, then simply tighten down all you bolts. You automatically have the exact same gaps as before. Hope this helps.......................Bamm!

I can't believe Steve didn't post a pic of the bare block after we put it in the back of his work van

Jerry, that's a great tip. We were discussing this tip a few weeks ago in 70GMCers garage!

Re: Who said you can't do this?

Nice! Just did that with the tow truck at the shop where we picked up a parts truck the other week.

He wanted the engine and gave me the rest. About 25 min. and the truck was rolling down the road minus one engine.
