Alternator converion question? 69 GMC

Im wondering if the alternator in my 69 gmc has an external regulator. There is a small box that bolts to the firewall that Im pretty sure is it.
If so how do I convert the wire harness to run a internaly regulated alternator? Thanks.

Re: Alternator converion question? 69 GMC

Where do your wires come out of your alternator?

I was told if they come out of the round part of the case, near the back then it is internally regulated.

If the wires come out of the back side of the alternator then it is externally regulated.

The regulators on my trucks are both up in the front drivers side on the rad support, beside the horns. One is a 69 GMC and has been converted to internally regulated, and the other a 70 GMC, and a parts truck still has an externally regulated alternator.

AAW makes a plug in conversion harness that is fairly cheap to convert from an external to internal regulator alternator. Less than $20. We can hook you up.
