Drivetrain
I'm workin' on the frame up of my 4x4 and I was just wondering what ya'all think of this set up... smallblock 350 with a MD8 700R4 and an NP205? Good Set up? or should I just stick with a TH350?

700 is a good trans as long as you dont throw crazzy HP and torq at it. I had the same set up inmy 72and luved it.

The 700r gives you over drive, which will allow you to run a 4:10 or similar and still cruise on the high way at decent RPM's.
I'd run one if I was building a drive train for a daily driver/cruiser truck. |

Where do you get the adapter for that setup? I have 700R4 with 208 was planning on putting in next project but would rather have 205. The 205 is now setup for 4-speed. Thanks......Rick

The 700 has a deeper first gear (3.06) compared to the 350 (2.52) as well as the OD. But the 700/205 combo never existed from factory so you will need a custom adapter. Check Advanced Adapters or other similar aftermarket companies. I've ran this same combo behind a sb stroker and a mild stroked 454. The 700 will survive a decent amount of torque and punishment if built for it. Talk to your reputable tranny shop about an over kill build. Once the tranny is out and tore down it is cost effective (over a standard rebuild) to add the extra beef for safety assurance. -steve

you need the adaptor for a 350 trans and a 3/4 in spacer or use the advance adaptors short tail shaft some guys use to just grinde the stock shaft down but I wouldnt do it that way.

Hey thanks guys... I have another question. What about linkage, will I just switch out the linkage "clicker" on the transmission? also what about electronics do I have to worry about that?

I went to a locar cable shifter when I did mine speed way also makes a shifter kit for like $40. for the electronics make sure its a 700r4 not a 460le the 700r4 can run the lock up cnverter from your break switch and all you would need is a for lead break switch and some wiring. you can buy the hole hit for the wiring a few places on line from 50 to 100 . I tihnk I have some of the stuff book marked onmy laptop on were I got parts from. Ill check when I get home.
