Question PIC request

Coud someone please post a pic of the steering arm on a K5? I would like to see one from a 69/70 and also a 71/72. I think that mine may have issues.

The old axles with closed knuckles used different ones..thats why you cant (or atleast its hard to) get a raised steering arm for the ones with closed knuckles.
Here is some old pics of the one for my 71...its a raised steering arm though so it may not help...
Some pics where the steering looks funky is because it was lowered back to stock height so I could dissassemble the truck but the lifted steering arm stayed on...and then some pics are after it was lifted back up...

I can get you a pic of the steering arm on my 69 K20 that has a closed knuckle Dana 44.

I put a 1978 3/4 ton Dana 44 into my 70 K5 and I think I have the 78's stock steering arm laying around - would a picture of it also help you?

When i bought my 70 K5 the stock steering arm was already replaced with a raised steering arm.

The steering arm from the closed knuckle Dana 44 in my 69 K20 is of course totally different from the steering arm used on the open knuckle axles.

I would like to see pics of the 78 stock arm if you can Yukon. I am using an open knuckle. I am going to get a pic of mine this evening and post it as well. I am thinking that my arm is either incorrect or has issues.

This is what I have on the Blazer. It is an open knuckle 44.
I think that it has issues. I also bounce around and have a lot of play while driving.

Yours appears to be the same as mine. Do you agree? Looking at your 3rd picture and mine, they seem to have the same angle. I appreciate your offer but this may not be my problem. I will have to troubleshoot some more when I get a chance. If it comes up that I need it, I am sure I have something I can trade for it. Thanks again for the pictures.

Mine is a good 4-6 inches away from the axle tube. Don't know what the PO did, but it does have a 4" lift. Springs and blocks. The steering box and the steering arm are on a level plan. If you need pics lmk... J.

Yep, yours appears to be a stock steering arm. Can't imagine these actually having a wear issue so I agree your problem is probably something else.

I bet yours has the same problem that mine used to. I think an accumulation of alignments over the years (or one bad one) caused the drag link to get too far elongated. When I bought it my Blazer would turn tighter in one direction than the other, the problem was that the steering box was not centered when the front wheels were. I had to screw in the adjuster on the drag link quite a few turns to get that part straight, then reset the steering wheel.

I noticed that there are a ton of thread showing on your drag link ends and this is what tipped me off to that. Tell me if I am crazy later. I am betting that when your wheels are straight that your pitman arm is not perpendicular to the frame, from the looks of it I bet it points somewhat forward towards the corner of the truck.

I realized what the problem was with mine when I converted it to power steering. The manual box had quite a bit of wear on it and had ~ 5-6" of slop in the steering wheel alone. Quite a scary drive!

Thanks Towrig. I will take a look at that once I get a chance. I threw my lower back out last week so I am not getting around very easy. When I get it fixed, I will let you all know what I found.
