Where's the best place to get a quality NP205 Rebuild kit? Are they a pretty much all the same?
Thanks,

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

Honestly, you really have to work to tear up a 205 enough to rebuild it.Some different seals and gaskets are always a plus though..
Here is a link to one kit -

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

I'm prepared for a lengthy rebuild. I want to make sure it is going to be leak free for a long time.

I'm going to follow this article closely

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

That link says to make sure I specify whether I have a large or small input bearing style. How do I know which I have if it doesn't state the two sizes?

Thanks for the link!

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

Also, why do you think that drivetrain.com has a kit that is over $100 more?

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

Hey Tim, I bought my kit from these guys, transmissionpartsplus and it is a very nice kit, it included Timken brand roller bearings and National seals. I went through a good 205 last winter and replaced the leaky one that was in my 71. Most of these leaky 205's have bearings, rollers and shims that are over 30 years old and need replaced. Buy the complete kit, take your time and fix it right, it is a good project and is not to difficult to go through . Search the web for more good how to's on how to rebuild the 205, I don't have any links anymore but there are some other sites with good directions.
Ask transmissionpartsplus your input bearing question. I am sure they can answer your question pretty quickly.

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

I just noticed also that the transmissionparts plus kit is the same kit as the one linked by 69k10step but is $30 less. my local 4x4 shop had the same thing for $189 plus the shipping cost

Thanks for the link!
I believe the 10 spline input shaft has the small bearing. The other input shafts (23 and 32, I think) have the larger bearing.

Re: NP205 Rebuild Kit

Same kit that is my link for $30 more! The kits I have found all seem to be the same kit, the prices are just different.
