manual tranny options?

hay i looking into a new tranny, any one got any ideas i was looking at a tremec Tko so i would have a 5 speed with overdrive anyone have much expereince with these or know a good overdrive altenative

i was going to try and keep my manual clutch because i don't have the time or a shop to fab up hydraulic clutch , i live 120 miles from my home and my shop, is there any way to run a manual clutch on an nv4500?

yes i am planning to put power to it so i looking for something that can handle i replaced my fly wheel yesturday and found metal shavings im my trany, alot of metal shavings

Yes Advanced adaptors sells a bell housing that works with the manual clutch set up. I have been thinking about selling my stock nv4500 bell housing and using theres I cant make up my mind if I want the hydrolic clutch under the hood. Ive been trying to come up with a way to hide it under the dash.

at a side note over at the deisel place there is a 2wd nv4500 for sale for 200 that is supose to be a good trans I was thinking abought buying it as a spair they sell for between 800 and 1500 on evilbay.

that is the trans all the guys on the 68 firebird board Im a membor of use. they seem to like it.

is it an overdrive? I was under the impression that is a one to one 5th gear, and a real deap first. (which, IMO is better anyways)

these have a .68 overdrive, i looked at a richmond 5 speed but they are the one with deep first and 1:1 fifth

nv35/4500's are a truck transmission. If you want more of a car type trans for racing, or just street cruising, go with the TKO.

thanx for the classic chevy link, i looking into a 500 because it a little cheap then the 600, never the less i will probaly use a tko600 and spend a little more just in case i decide to go mad with the engine,the nv35/nv45 are big for my tastes i run a muncie now and i like the fact that they are light(i picked mine up by myself yesturday) and you have alot of room around them, i read that you need to have them alighned to you bellhousing, whats all involved in this, i thinking about selling my 58 apache to fund this swap, don't want to but might have to i like the idea of over drive though

yeah, dubs i got an m21 but its starting to get alot of shavings and makes alot of noise ithink these will be just as good but with one extra gear

Well, if you can live with of the expense the overdrive, it will put a smile on your face! My longhorn runs a 3.40 gear, with a 6 spd Richmond......just a tick over 3100 in 6th is right @ 105 mph on the open hyway L

I'm a part of the above thread ... I had the chance to drive my truck with the NV4500 that I mention in it. I had my GPS unit with me, yesterday, so I could gauge my rpm's-MPH. Here's what I saw ...

2000 rpm = 60 MPH
2500 rpm = 75 MPH

Yes, the "REAL" 1st gear is ultra low.

Using the stock master-slave cylinder. Had to mock up a piece to get the master cylinder's "plunger" lined up with my clutch pedal. Works great with an appropriate amount of effort and throw. By no means do I see this as a "street" or "strip" setup, but it is functional and durable. Burned about 1/4 of a tank for 120 mile round trip.

The Richmond "6" is a 5+o/d.They are spendy,though.I`d like one of those or an M-series w/Gear Vendors.That would be awesome.

i priced a GV-OD, it would be nice then i could split all the gears, like the dad's 389 peterbuilt(maybe not) but for the price i could get a brand new all in one trans that would require less fab to install i like the richmond 6 but wow thosae are expensive

I agree.Dollar-wise,the Richmond 6spd would be the easiest and cheaper route.I`d like a GV in my`92 K3500 with a NV4500.It`s a marine-prepped 6.5TD with 300hp.Theres no wastegate on the medium duty turbo and the inj.pump is puttin`the coals to it.It makes best power above 2,000rpm,kinda laggy(and smokey)below that.I`m just wasting fuel and losing power.If I could split gears I could keep it in "the range",like the heavy trucks.I love going 1st to 2nd to 3rd,but then it`s drawn out.A six speed would be better.
