'72 Jimmy - Original Sticker
All,
I had an interesting question come up the other day from my insurance provider - What was the original sticker price? The question became moot when the agent realized I was talking about a '72, but it has been nagging me since. I looked a few places on the web, but all I can find is people selling stuff. The truck is a '72 Jimmy 350 4x4 with automatic transmission, Cheyenne package, and air conditioning. I guessed original price of $7500. Any idea on how I did. I don't know for sure, but would guess more around $3500-4000. Reason I say this is I had a '71 Chevelle (not SS) but with a/c & 350 & it was $3400 new.

I think that is pretty high for the original sticker. I looked up my 1972 Blazer and it came up as $3253 as the sticker. It listed 4 wheel drive as the only option though. Back then the top was even listed as an option. My guess is that it is closer to $4000-$4200. You can look yours up at this link. http://www.nadaguides.com/home.aspx?...=28&p=0&f=5000 Click classic car, then trucks/SUV and then your information that they ask for. When it gives you a current value, just look at the top and the MSRP is listed there.

My 70 Jimmy suggested retail price was $4575. My Mom paid $3500 for it in 1971. The auto transmission was a $231.35 and power steering was a $124.30 option. Dont have the window sticker tho, these figures are from the
license fee papers that the state uses, dated 18th May, 1970. Later---DAC

Thanks for all the feedback. Answers to some of the questions Rust - It was bad in all the areas expected (floor pans and rocker panels). The one bear was the drivers side upper windshield frame (where the horiz meets the vertical) that was completely rusted out. Pictures below. Engine - was in sad shape. In my inexperience and original zeal (I bought it in 95), I had the engine swapped at a local engine shop. I didn't think of rebuilding at the time, engine shop guy said it wasn't worth it. I can't remember now what was wrong with the original. I know I agreed with him at the time. He was a good deal - rebuilt engine, installed a new carb that I bought, new mounts, new fuel pump, conversion to HEI, new water pump, and 3yr/36k warranty for around $1,300. It sounds and runs great now even after very little driving over the last 10+ years (damn time flies) Transfer case shifter - we just haven't cut the carpet and reinstalled yet. It is in the garage. We go to get it inspected this weekend - all that little stuff should be done then Old School Slots - That and the stearing wheel are the biggest fights of my life. On the wheels there are two camps; they are either the butt ugliest thing on the planet or they are cool. My wife is going to make that decision (more on that briefly). Steering wheel at 17" is too big (because I am too big). We need a tilt column or a smaller wheel. Since I am tired of spending money and the wheel looks like crap, we are looking for a 15". Again, strong opinions here. Again my wife will make this call. My Wife - I have the best car wife on the planet. Usually it is the guy pushing and lobbying to buy/spend on the old cars. I have the opposite she is a car nut and an old car lover. I have to be the voice of reason and restraint, which totally sucks. Be careful what you ask for, cause you just may get it. Together we strike a nice balance, but I wish I could be the dreamer instead of the practical one. Anyway, she is the one who is HOT about the wheels and stearing wheel. More pics, more pics. My thoughts, truck looks great. Maybe bigger tires and polish the slots. I just got a set of 10" wide slots and now have to spend endless hours polishing, but that is what I like doing. Please don't take my comments as negative, because I really like the way your project came out. I don't think I could have kept the interest that long....
Nice to have a wife like that, makes the hobby that much more enjoyable. Curious, do you have any pics of the windshield repair. I may be headed down that road, and any help would be great. J.

No offense taken on any suggestions. I have been toying with the idea of bigger tires - 32s. I went to the extent of creating a little photo shop magic
I am really liking the bigger tires. I don't have any pictures of how the body guy did the repair. He had slowed down work and I went out of town. When I got back he was done. He said it was hard. His quote was "that is what you pay me for". |

Guess not many of us left to answer your price question. I ordered mine in late 71. Went to credit union, got blue book dealers cost on all the options I wanted. Had to use 71 prices as 72 wasn't in the book yet. Got hardtop, radio (am) posi, 350, 4 speed, rear seat, a/c, steering & brakes, and cst package.(carpets fancier seats & door panels & crome sticks.) tinted window came with a/c. 71 blue book dealers cost was 4500.00. Went to Chevy, gave them my paper with what I wanted & prices. Offered 4700.00. No go. Went to GMC same offer, they ordered it out for 4700.00. So that is what I paid for mine. When It came in window sticker was 5300.00. Things were cheap back then. Gauge package cost 10.25 over idiot lights. Good old days. Hope that gives you an idea. Forgot to mention, I'm still driving it. Only thing kinda messed up on was rear seat. It was around 200.00, and was only in it for 3 months, Takes up way too much room since it set in the middle of back. It's been setting in my store room every since. But befor you guys start asking, I don't want to sell it, I like to keep my toys complete.
