help...wheels dont fit over brakes

I didn't think about the fact that my stock wheels will not fit over the disk brakes in front. You might be able to see where the caliper and spindle are rubbing...I really want to keep the stock 6 lug 15s not only for looks but cost and time...I have a new set of rubber on them. Can I grind on it and make it fit? Spacers...where and how? Worst case...can anyone suggest a 15in wheel i could find at the junkyard?

Are you talking about rubbing here? I wouldn't want to grind off too much. Keep in mind there needs to be enough clearance for wheel deflection when you put the truck into a curve & such. Maybe a small shim would be the way to go- just make sure your studs are long enough.

Re: help...wheels dont fit over brakes

If they are hitting the face of the caliper, try a spacer (can't tell from the pic) If on the top, You can grind some, but be careful of possible stress points and grind smooth, don't "cut" into the caliper. Jerry

Re: help...wheels dont fit over brakes

Ok...my problem is i don't know if grinding will really solve the problem... It is touching the top of the caliper where you circled....but also up on the back of the spindle i think... when i bolt down the wheel it wont spin...

Re: help...wheels dont fit over brakes

The original wheels from the 60's and older (previous to disc brake introduction) were made in such a way that they won't work on disc brake applications. If you're wanting to stay somewhat stock looking, try and find some wheels from a '70's or '80's 1/2T 4x4. For that matter even the 6 lug wheels from the '88 and newer pickups have a 6x 5 1/2" bolt pattern, I'm just not sure about how the back spacing will work out.
