Re: what is this?

Looks like a steering box....I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but is that what you are asking?

Re: what is this?

That looks like a component of the factory power-assist steering avialable on the '60-'66 Chevy trucks. I have a well optioned '65 Chevy C10 swb fleet, big back window, factory A/C truck with the power-assist steering option on it. This looks like a part of this system. I am not close to my trucks, right now, to compare the photo to the truck.

To answer your question, the parts for the factory power-assist steering is not being reproduced, however many of the steering/suspension rebuilders/remanufacturers can rehab this unit.

I hope this helps and I am sure someone with the factory power-assist steering will chime in with a definite answer, whether this is part of theat assembly. I recently have seen the complete power-assist steering assemblies sell on eBay, in excess of $400.00, so if you have one, hold onto it or have it refurbished.

Re: what is this?

Check you Yellow Pages for rebuilders or your local auto parts stores for recommendations. Give these guys a try:

I don't have a direct link, but you can e-mail them from this link.

Good luck.

Re: what is this?

I'm not sure what the correct name is for it, but I call it the steering valve. That piece connects the pitman arm to the draglink. It basically controls the flow of fluid from the pump to the assist ram when you turn the steering wheel. My '66 C20 has the original power steering like you have there. Many years ago when I was asking about parts for mine at the local Chevy dealer parts counter, I was told that that same power steering system was used on Corvette's up until around '77 (not positive on the final year). I never did much with mine....it was leaking a bit, so I added a little brake fluid and that helped some. When I get it back on the road I'll convert it to an integral power box. So if you have trouble finding what you need elsewhere, you might try searching for steering parts for a 'vette. Hope that helps.
