spindles

Can someone tell me the difference between 70 spindles and 71. The PO had changed from 6 to 5 lug and lowered the truck by cutting the springs. I would like to get 2 1/2 " drop spindles and 1" lower springs, and need to know to tell the difference to order new ones.

Re: spindles

I'll throw out some "ifs" but we'll need more information that you may not have.

If it is truly a '71 spindle, then McGaughys, maybe others, makes drop spindles that should bolt right up to the '71 ball joints you already have.

If it is '73 or newer then you have more options. Bell Tech, McGaughys, Western Chassis, ECE for 1 1/4 rotors.

You can also get '73-up ball joints, outer tie rod ends and adapters for the tie rod ends and use the newer spindles.

Check with the board vendors and they can fix you up.

Re: spindles

Is there anyway to tell what they are by looking at them.

Re: spindles

I don't know just by looking. I have stock spindles on my '71 and '73-up drop spindles on my son's '69 for comparison purposes. I also have an ECE kit that comes with spindles, newer upper ball joints and outer tie rods.
Can you take some pictures of the steering arms and spindles? Someone else may be able to get you an answer sooner since I am not anywhere near my truck.
