Most of those big trucks had the tach. Pretty much everyone I see around here has the factory tach and they won't turn loose of 'em either. I'd snag it if the price is right and it all works. As far as the air pressure guage, they were for the air ride shocks in the rear.

Air pressure gauge in the big trucks was mainly for the air brake system.

also is it hard hooking a tach up in a non-tach truck, how many wires are there and where do they all go? does anyone have any diagrams?

Look at the parts in a tach conversion kit. You will need everything except the tach!

Just buy it if the price is right---you may be able to trade it for someone who want the air pressure setup for their air ride and you could get the plain jane or maybe the most desireable one of all, the notorious VACUUM tach cluster!!!!Huck

Which guage cluster did your truck have? If idiot light dash you will have to convert the wire harness from the idiot type to the guage type. Tachs can be recalibrated, and there are just 2 wires to hook up the tach. 1 to power, 1 to the distributor.

the BIG truck gauges

Thats what I have in my truck. Air pressure and all cause I didn't take it out. Once I cleaned everything it looked really nice and I couldn't beat the price. However I still have a problem. The tach is for a v8 and I have an inline6. I have disassembleed the tach and anyone who thinks theres a switch for dual operation on all tachs is wrong. I just know the conversions on the speed, but the v8 shows my rpms as quite lower for my 6. I would be willing to trade anyone for a 6cyl tach . Mine works fine, it just is for a V8. Thats true for the air pressure gauge, air brakes.

recalibrate it for the 6. I use a factory 6 tach with my V8.
There is an adjustment screw covered by a white sticker on the back of a factory tach, the calibration screw is behind the sticker.
Mine works perfect.

There isn't a screw of any kind on mine???? I have took it apart looking for it. On the back it is stamped "V8 ONLY". I wish I had the correct one though.

You may have some trouble with the guage panel out of the bigger truck.
It won't fit in your truck. Where the steering column goes it is cut differant.
The tachs in a big truck are sometimes low RPM tachs. The ones we want show 5 grand...some of the big trucks only show 4000.
Just a couple observations.

I'm interested.... I'm planning to go with rear bags and might try to incorporate a factory air pressure guage into the setup... not sure how (or if) it would work, but I have a tach dash with the regular lens in it if you wanna swap lenses...

haven't actually seen one with air guage before.... does it say "air pressure" or what?

got any pics?

I think it would be cool to find a cluster with a vacum guage. I liked watching the vacum change in my 74 when I would drive under different conditions.

here's pic of a tach dash with nothing in the space where the air pressure/vacuum guage would go.... you would have thought something like a clock would have been optional for the half ton trucks, instead of a dead hole....
