Engine Identification? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looking at getting some parts, rest will be hauled off to the scrapper by the owner.

Could anyone guess what engine this is? I would guess maybe a 327 or 350? Not sure if its the one original to the truck but it would be out of a '69. Gauging if it should "follow me home".

Id say 283 maybe 327. Can you get the # and letters of the front pad were its cleaned off in front of the passengers side head that would tell for sure.

Judging by that harmonic balancer that's a 283 or 327. It should have solid valve covers though, those engines didn't have PCV valves or breather tubes on the covers, just one crankcase breather on the back of the block.

Probably a 283. A 327 would would likely have a a 4bl carb. At least most of the trucks I have seen have been that way. But that is by no way set in stone, Just an observation. That # or code on that front pad would tell you for sure or you can run the casting #'s

I'm guessing 307... A '69 V-8 with a 2bbl, that someone took out as a complete unit, gotta be a 307.
Plus, I thought they stopped 283's in '67 and 327's in '68? I could be wrong on the 327's...
The #'s from the back drivers side of the block, on the flange the trans bolts to, should be able to find out roughly what it is. then on the front passenger side, just in front of the cyl head, there are more #'s there. those should help you find out more.

Thanks all for your help. I will probably be going out there one of these nights this week to part out the truck. May just have it follow me home, do some homework on it, and then either keep or boneyard it.

Something isn't original here... if it came out of a 69, then the intake was added at a minimum. They stopped that fill tube in 68 whent hey dropped the 327. So just looking at it with the early intake and later valve covers makes it a crap shoot anyways.
If it turns out to be a 350, I would grab it, and then pull the timing chain and look for the 10 and the 20 cast in the block... that would make it a high nickle block, and they are bullit proof foundations.
