Fair trade...

Hey y'all, I havent posted in a while...

Anywho, just to catch y'all up on the past 4 months or how ever long its been since I posted anything....

-Blew the motor in my truck
-Grown accustomed to luxery after driving my old ladies 98 Sonoma
-Old lady and I went our seperate ways, took her truck with her
-Left me with nothing to drive
-Had to throw back in the orignal 327...took almost 2 hours
-Now I have something to drive
-Rebuilding the 454 that was in it..."we can made it better, faster, stronger"
-Bought a new shotgun....Benelli Supernova 12guage
-Been driving the hell out of my truck averaging 3-9mpg depending on how late Im running


Now, a guy at work has been in love with my truck ever since he saw it. And he offered me a trade.

1993 GMC Typhoon(hell yeah...turbo) which has 43K on the clock, and is in *edited by moderator* near perfect condition.

It books out for 9K according to the Kelly guy and his little blue book.

That sounds like a fair trade?

I don't know what your truck looks like or what it's worth but Syclones and Typhoons bring pretty good $ in the right condition. One of my buds just bought a Syclone after looking for 1.5yrs!

I hate to see someone part with their classic truck, but I'd probably make the trade. Typhoons are a rare bread and they are poised to be a collector (if they aren't considered one already.)

My dad designed the turbos on the Grand Nationals (he worked for Garrett for 23 years) so the turbo 6's have a special place with me.

one part of me says hell no, cuase i think of the connection i have with my truck(in the familey for about its entire life) but the other half says yes. if your not that attached to the truck i would say yeah. cause thats a lot of scratch for a 30sum yr old vehicle(if you look at it that way.) you could sell that later an get youself another truck for sure. do it!

I agree that a Typhoon with 43K is a great trade, but if you don't pamper it your going to watch the value drop like a lead weight down a well.

Not my idea of a daily driver especially if you "drive the hell" out of your trucks.

I'd love to have one myself, but I'd still need a D.D. too rare to thrash.

I'll agree with the others, however, if you haul ANYTHING, you'll be killin that mini truck, a years subcription to custom classic trucks would just about tax the payload on that.

I just sold my Syclone, I wouldn't make the trade, unless you really like working in tight spaces. There is a websight dedicated to Sy/Tys, from my experience they do not make the best daily driver, there is always something wrong with them. It seems like they really like ignitions systems, plugs, wires, caps and rotors are at the very least a yearly change. To top it off, everything for one is expensive, some parts you can't get new and are hard to find. Not trying to scare you or anything, just my experience with one talking. But on the other side where can you get a v6 that will do 1.6 or so 60 foots on the street?

Hmmm, hopped up square bodied S-10 or 70 short-bed.....

Do you REALLY need to ask?

If you really want something like that, you can pick up an S-10 pretty cheap and drop a 350 in it.

I'd definitely keep the 70...

A neighbor of mine has one. HE tells me he doesnt drive it too much because changing the spark plugs takes a FEW hours! If you do get it,SELL it and buy another real nice 67-72!JMO

If you could use it as a pleasure vehicle and not your DD I'd say yes. If you just want a fast S truck, do what was mentioned above and drop a 350 in one or buy one off craigslist.org. You can buy one off there most of the time cheaper than you can build one.

Bottom line: Only you can make the decision. You have options. He doesn't.

A v8 s10 isn't going to launch anything like that awd v6 will . Not to mention he won't be doing any hauling as the Typhoon is the blazer version, the Syclone is the pickup version.

I agree with ChevLoRay. It seems that could eat into any money you were going to spend on the 454 rebuild especially if it needs any help.

Nice shotgun. He might be willing to trade you for it instead, although I wouldn't do that either

The 70 was my DD, a/c didnt work, got terrible gas mileage, and would ride like a chuck wagon since I slammed it.

The reason I am looking at this is it has ICE cold a/c, overdrive, fuel injection, and its a light truck...so Im expecting anywhere from 23-25mpg, I would assume anyway if they're anything like their little brothers. And Im gonna be putting less than 70 miles a week on it.

As far as the 350 S-10s go....been there, dont that. Ive had 2 of them and went through 15 different motors, even had a 396 BBC in one at on time, and they ARE just a toy, sure...they can be made reliable DDs, but that defeats the purpose of shoeboxing.


Oh, and Rikbar....I usually change cap/rotor/plugs etc....every six months anyway.

I dont know Crazy, I love that Shotgun....I would how ever trade him my 300 Win-Mag though, cant afford ammo for that ***** anymore.

ok so if you use the ac it would strain the heck out of the engine and it would also cost you gas mileage and with the 70 stay at 55 miles an hour or better with the windows down and those fresh air vents open

Trade for the Typhoon, save your pennies for a month or two and then buy yourself a $500 daily driver for work duty.

Don't pass up that trade, but like others have said don't use it for a daily driver either.

I would not like to be in your shoes right now for sure. That ty. is a bad little suv and GM high tech performance magazine usually has some nice wright ups on them. Although, I just put my ac back on my dd 72 and with a 350 and 700r4 I'm getting about 17mpg at 70-75 mph with a 373 gear and 285/70/15's on it. I am quite surprised by it,and I can buy and install all the parts myself.I wouldnt try that with the Ty.

I was just using the cap, rotor plugs as an example, there are many more things that will go wrong. o2 sensor, throttle position sensor, etc. I was just saying they aren't very good with dailey driving. In my syclone it was a good day when I got 12 miles per gallon, but I did have some tuning done with the chip set more to race. There is no doubt about it that they are neat little trucks, it was alot of fun. I had my syclone just over 3 years, and in that time I put a total of about 16k in it, I did have to rebuild the motor, and that wasn't cheap, I did all the work myself and still ended up costing my around 3k.

Get a wrecked Escalade, take the entire drivetrain and front/rear diffs and build yourself an AWD '70 SWB! Then put a turbo on the 6.0 and THEN you'll have some FUN! A friend of mine and I are contimplating this for his '67 SWB.

I bought an 89 IROC-Z a few years back with 44k mi. on the clock and used it as my daily driver, and let me tell you it was always somethin goin wrong with it. I found that older really low milage cars or trucks are more of a pain than anything else because of all the sitting. So what I'm tryin to say is its not gonna be a good daily driver if that's what your needing. Just depends on how much your truck means to you.

I thought about doing something similar to a newer body style 4x4 S-10, I was gonna throw in a GEN III, and yank the AWD teanny and tranfer case of of one of them Astro van, and call it the new Syclone.

Lol, I have all kinds of ideas for vehicle, just dont have the money to put them into action.
