New Blazer 4 me!

Picked this up this weekend. '69 K5 CST. The interior is complete with the console, buckets with scroll covers, and rear seat too! Rust includeds one spot in the drivers floorboard, lower passenger side behind the door, and under the battery of course. It came with a good set of 6 lug ralley's, and an extra 4 speed. I don't see getting it on the road anytime soon (since my wife is zoned in on building a house) but it will be something for me to look forward to.

1 question, is there something I should do to stop the rust in the areas I mentioned so it doesn't get worse before I get time to work on it? thanks.

Re: New Blazer 4 me!

Well - I will chime in here after 20 views and no answers to your question...

First of all - congrats on your new (to you) Blazer - you now have 1 of 4935 made! I own one of the other 4935 myself.

If it were me with that rust - I would have it media blasted out then have it coated with epoxy primer - even if you don't get to the body work for some time it should be covered for some time.

If you want to do it cheaper as the above method may be more costly...

Get rid of the rusted spots by cutting them out with a cut-off wheel or a dremel about an inch or so around the spots (or a screwdriver is all it takes sometimes) until solid metal is reached - then treat the metal with a 'converting' product such as POR-15, RustBullet, RustMort, Jasco Prep & Primer, or PM Industries Coating. Each of these has different prices and techniques to apply them correctly.

From what I have seen the PM Industries (www.nomorerust.com) stuff works pretty good, but I have no first hand experience with it.

That should hold you for awhile though. Good Luck.

Re: New Blazer 4 me!

That is a great looking K5! Can't beat having limited rust. Will you be storing it inside or out for the time being? Not sure I would worry about the rust at the moment, will take it along time to do much more damage. I'd probably try to get some pain on the areas where there is bare metal showing, like on the hood. Just sand off the surface rust and hit it with some rattle can primer and then some paint.

Good starting point. It is going to take a little work getting that one to look as nice as your old one.

I loved that Jimmy I had. However, I think I'm gonna go a different direction with this one. It'll still have that Muscular stock look (maybe a 2.5" lift) with 33x12.50's but instead of the immaculate stock interior (big coin) I'll probably line-x (or equivalent) the inside of the entire tub, put some all weather seat covers on it and never put the top back on..... Also, come up with some kind of quick release for the rear seat so I can haul stuff in the bed. I love the thought of a classic work truck.

I know it has a GMC hood on it but it really is a Blazer...

Don't get me wrong, given the choice I'd choose a Jimmy. I'm partial to the GMC front clip on 4wd's and the '67-'68 front clips on the 2wds....

Re: New Blazer 4 me!

still have it for sale, but for a much lower price. I decided that I couldn't miss the opportunity to get the blazer, it just may have to wait a little while to be on the road....
