Hello All
Im in the middle of a 6 lug drum to 6 lug disc conversion on a 70 pickup (my brothers)We used 73-87 upper and lower control arms with 1.25 caliper and spindles.to get 6 lug rotors we bought 9o 2wd rotors 6 lug(the 70 is 2wd)the rotors fit as well as everything else until time to install calipers.there is about 1/4 inch gap between the inboard pad and rotor.do i need the 1990 calipers as well?i was under the impression that 73-87 should work.Any help would be greatly appreciated its to hot to be fighting the job this close to the end.

The piston is probably still all the way in the caliper. Unless you can post a pic, I would guess that on the first couple of pumps the piston will be pushed out and the gap will be gone.

I remember that when I redid my brakes that with new shoes and the piston pushed all the way in, the caliper assembly barely fit over my rotors. I think it has more to do with mix/matched parts? There have been a couple threads on using newer rotors, but I can't remember if the parts mixes actually worked or not?

What year did you get the brake shoes for? Maybe some years are thicker than others?

i believe the piston is all the way in.ill double check.the brake pads came with the 73-87 front end.Im going over to a friends to get the 88 up front calipers to try.Thanks for the input Dave

are those the light-duty 3/4 ton rotors? thats what they sould like. the distance between the back of the rotor and the grease seal is different. I looked at that when I was doing my disk change, and didn't appear that they would work for just this reason. not sure if the caliper is different, or the spindle is different and moves the caliper location.

there may not be enough movement left in the caliper to wear the pads correctly.

Well Thanks for all your input but i dont believe it will work with stock 88 up rotors the bearings are located 1/2 inch farther inboard compared to 73-87 rotor so im going to return the 1990 rotors and run five up front and six in the rear until i can afford a set of aftermarket six lug rotors.
