67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
There wasn't an organized build thread section when I stared this project, and I had to pull off of it for almost a year, so I am going to retro post pics up until where its at now and go from there.
This is the truck when I brought it home. It had 17.5" 1 piece factory rims and a flatbed. It has a 292 with SM420 and a 5.38 geared Eaton HO72 rearend.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Within a week I had rounded up a set of 16" 1 piece wheels and tires, and got it running. I had to put a master cylinder on it and took it on its maiden voyage. It had sat for about 14 years and the old 292 fired up with very little effort.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I decided even before I bought it that I wanted a Dually pickup, so I started buying parts and parts trucks. I bought a really decent '70 C-10 with an almost perfect bed and a '71 GMC long stepper with a very nice set of stepside fenders to use as the dually humps for the rear tires.

Here a photoshop (photoCHOP!) pic of how I wanted the truck to look. This is my avatar pic. Hopefully I can update that with a REAL pic soon.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I took the flatbed off and bought a set of trim rings and center caps from a new model C3500 off Ebay. I also bought a new set of tires and painted the 16" Dually wheels nice shiny black!

Here's some of one I found awhile back. I like the stepside enders. It gives it that factory look.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
As I said I had to take about a year off the project, but lately I have got back on it. I shortened the 133" wheelbase to 127" to accommodate the 8' bed bed. I also put a 14 bolt rearend with a much more road friendly 4.10 gears out a '97 C3500 dually pickup. Here are the pics of rearend and pics of it with the bed installed. I am working on the stepside fenders now to get them ready to mount.

Cool little project, I know how it is when you have to take time off from a build.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I started on the dually humps today, and have some pics. I mocked the stepside fenders up on Chlorine buckets and marked them with a 3" piece of steel with a hole drilled for a pencil. After I got them marked, I cut them with a cutoff wheel. It went much easier than I thought it would. I only did the passenger side. I want to complete it before moving on to the left, because I have better pass side fender that I am going to use in case I mess up!
I never realized the stepside fenders taper down in the rear like the body line on the fleetsides do. This fender really does look as if it were made to go on a fleetside.

I am going to use up the excess that I cut off and use it as my mounting bracket.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Looks awesome. About 10 or 12 years ago I new a guy that did this to his. He started with a 3/4 ton 4x4 and added a dually hub kit. He narrowed the step fenders like you are. BB, 4spd and 4 or 6" of lift. It looked great. I never had the foresoght to get pics of it though. Haven't seen him for years, but I know he sold after his divorce. I'd love to start a project like this someday.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Thanks! I have always wanted one built like this. I tried several times to buy this truck since 1993, and the PO finally let me get in Dec of 2004.

Glad to see that you are working on it again. Congratulations. I haven't really done anything on mine this summer except for washing it twice and working it twice.

Are you planning anything else for the drive train? I think it would be a cool daily driver, maybe make some ac brackets and put a nice ac in it.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
It is going to be powered by a 6.5 Turbo Diesel, but I am going to keep the SM420. I am going to change over the brakes to hydroboost add power steering, and eventually AC. The engine already has the compressor on it, and I have a parts truck that has an AC cab to use parts from.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I got the passenger dually flare mounted. It took a little trimming to get it perfect, but it fits really good. I'm going to put the outer wheel and tire on a get some pics hopefully tomorrow.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Again, I am glad to see you working on it again, we will have to arrange for a side by side picture when yours is done.
We have to haul a '41 Lincoln V-12 to Hershey PA this fall, I was trying to talk my dad into using the '68 instead of the cummins. It would stretch her legs as it is almost 600 miles each way, hopefully only loaded one way though. Plus it would look really cool, my truck towing a deep red lincoln covered in chrome up on the aluminum featherlite car trailer, sure would turn alot of heads on I-81. Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
Here is how I marked the stepside fender to match the fleetside bed profile. It is actually much easier than it seems. I didn't take pics on the first one, but I decided to do this to show anyone wanting to do it that it is not a big deal. I used an old fender brace cut down to 3" and sorta thread my pencil into the hole to mark cut line.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.
I used the excess that I cut off the fender, and cut it up and used it for brackets. When I get ready to take the fendee back off to finish the body work, I'll get post pics of the backside of it.
