Dipstick leak
Does anybody have any tricks to get the dipstick on an automatic transmission to stop leaking?
The first time I seen it dripping I thought it ran down the outside of the tube while filling it. I have tried about 10 times to get the thing to stop leaking with different O-rings but it just wonīt stop. Everything is clean and straight. Itīs gettin on my nerves.

Re: Dipstick leak
Try another dip stick, sometimes they get worn down and will continue to leak no matter what.

Re: Dipstick leak
Some of the newer trannies don't used an o-ring, they have a rubber sleeve that fits over the end. I believe they have them in the HELP section at the parts stores. It may be worth trying.

Re: Dipstick leak
The one I have in there right now is brand new. It was probably made in China or something.
I think I am going to put the old one in and try it. Before I did the engine and tranny everything was full of oil so I donīt know if the old one was leaking.

I think I will just wrap teflon tape around it and hot glue it! ![]()

Re: Dipstick leak
A properly sized O-ring, (I.D. O.D. @thickness) will play a big difference. Also, CLEAN, no contamination. The other thing to check for is if the tube is out-of-round, they can get that way when pulled out for service.

Re: Dipstick leak
I tried about 20 times yesterday and finally got the leak stopped. I finally found the right size o-ring and also put some teflon thread tape just under the lip above the o-ring.
The tube is brandnew and wasnīt deformed in any way. The spout was perfectly round. Thanks for the tips anyways.
