Windshield wiper conversion

Hi
I have a 72 C10 with the slow and slower wipers. Have done everything, grease, ground.
The best solution so far is RainX.

Have checked other posts and have not heard of anyone updating the wiper motor, it sure would be nice to have a three speed and delay also.

If anyone has done anything like this or knows of what might fit without major surgery, or a bank loan.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Have only been on the broad a short time and really have enjoyed all the input all you guys do to help each other, along with the venders.

have you taken the wiper arms off and sprayed the towers with wd40 or pbblaster while the wipers were on then after doing that for 5-10 minutes sprayed them with silicone lubricant?? it can make a big differance

Did it! Took arms and towers off Cleaned sprayed, checked ground. It did stop them from quitting at stop light.

So far that has been my solution. Keep the RainX coating fresh.

sounds to me like you have a worn out wiper motor. Mine stays on low unless it is a torental down pour.

i would check your motor and would lube everything really good,

If you want the delay function, you have a few options.

never got around yo checking it out but mabe a chevy van. i think they are mounted under the dash too

I know for a fact the motor is the exact same as a fist generation camaro/firebird.

If you are using Rain-X, here's something I discovered that helped mine work better.

1. Clean the windshield with good glass cleaner.
2. Go over the entire windshield with 0000 steel wool (Four Ought). Don't use anything coarser than this, rubbing the glass with enough pressure to know you did it.
3. Clean the windshield with cleaner, again.
4. Apply the Rain-X, following the application instructions.

This procedure helped end the skipping that the wipers did on the glass, when you finally had to run the wipers full-on. I didn't have to fight the black crud that built-up on the glass that made the wipers skip and hop.

As proof of my better wiper performance, we drove to Tampa from LR, in Nov. 2000, pulling a small trailer....into the headwinds/rain of a late-season hurricane....through the panhandle of FL. I drove from LR, well into the interior of FL before I had to use the wipers instead of the Rain-X for vision. I was running mine intermittently while other vehicles had theirs on high speed. It was cool.

the wiper motor oin my one ton is out of a 67 camaro I think... but all 3 trucks I've had as drivers had great wipers. Well, I take that back, my first one, the blue 70 CST/20 longhorn was a little slow, but not slow enough I would complain about them.
