Can you shorten the OE streering column??

Even though I've only had my 60 stepside less than a week a lot of improvements/changes are running through my head. And since I'm a fat ass with a big gut it's a tight fit behind the column and late 60s pass car wheel. I've got a pretty flat aftermarket wheel that will help but in looking at the column (at least from inside of the truck) it looks like there is enough room to maybe shorten the column a few inches. Can this be done and if so how would you do it? Thanks.

not sure if it can be doen , but would suggest a tilt column, many here will chime in and tell you to get one from a older van.

good luck

You can chop the column down but if you're going to all that work why not just find a tilt and slap it in? Either way you'll have to make a new dash to column mount and (possibly) a new floor to column mount.
