How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

well I'm thinking about picking this up soon. It's at an insurance auction so I cant ask anything to the previous owner.

Whay can you guyz tell me by looking at the pictures? What should I look for as potential problem areas for rust. Also How much am I looking at to replace the damaged parts?

An last,,,, what's a fair price for this truck?

does it run at all? I would say 1000 or less not knowing the history is it a sealed auction or can you start low and work your way up? I tlooks like it has some bondo in the driver side cab corners I would also check the lowe doors how are the rockers and floors are they solid steel or solid bondo and fiber glass?

Your gonna need a new cab because the center section is bent up. I wonder how badly the frame is damaged, it's gonna take alot of work to get it fixed. Good luck and keep us informed.

The battery is dead so there is no way to verify how well it runs. But this is a state farm insurance auto auction and all wrecked cars were running when wrecked so I have to assume that it runs. The auction starts at $100 and we work the price up until people are done bidding.

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

fender after market 150 window 250 grill new 500 radiator suport new 200 hood 300 to 500 new depending what you want. used you can probably get a hole front clip for a 200 to 300. used wind sheiled 50.

I tihnk he is looking at the way the dash is bent in that may have sucked the hole cab in to the center.

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

I think it will be ok when you go to put the new dash in but unless you do your own body work it may be cheaper to get a new cab. it has at least $1k in parts needed to get it back on the road I would say before it was wrecked it was a 2500 to 3500 doller truck depending on if its full of bondo or not then it would be less.

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

The cab is bent badly enough to knock the windshield out, so merely replacing the dash section likley will not be the end of the cab problems.

Next question, if the cab is that fubar'd then I am guessing the frame is at least twisted, if not bent.

For those reasons, you are bidding on strictly a parts truck. As a matter of fact, it will probably come with a salvage title if it is from an insurance auction. This will GREATLY reduce the value when it is restored, because it will still have a salvage title attributed to it.

with the above statement...If there is frame damage than this is a parts truck IMHO. Also if it has a salvage title it will be more difficult to sell it should you purchase the truck, fix it up, and then decide to sell it some day. As mentioned...there are still enough trucks out there that you might be better off to go with a non-wrecked truck. Then again...if you can do all the repair work yourself than just fiqure up the cost of parts and see what you will have invested. But still...if it has a salvage title then parts only.

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

I wish I had pics of my old 67 I had I hit a telephone pole and it looked alot wores then this truck and it was all fixed. My window came out too but my dash wasnt bent like that. this truck is weiredthe body is lined up with the bed good. you would think with the whay the dash looks dented in that the cab would not be straight with the bed.

To me, it looks like an awesome parts truck. Wheels, tires, entire stepside box, motor, trans and maybe hood and SWB frame have potential.

Start low and stay under $500 if it was me since you can't hear it run.

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

you realy want to know what 4 speed it has not what it came with ,right? we can't help you with that without a pic. that truck didn't come with a 4 speed judging from the pics. i would say it's a parts truck, nothing more. but if it has a munci or t10 i would pay up to $1200 if it,s a sagini not over $800 but thats just me and judging only from the pics less if the box is full of filler. are you sure it's even a 4 speed and not a 3 speed? engine appears to be pre 1980 but i'm guessing not orignal to this truck run the numbers and see what it is

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

I agree with blue 71, the dash damage and missing windshield are probably due to the trucks occupants at the time of the accident. I work at a salvage yard and 99% of the time our cars have dash damage and a shattered windshield from people not wearing their seat belts.

Re: How much is too much for this truck ? (pics)

went and looked at the truck today. It's a mess. Paint is brushed on. Has a lot of rust. The door sills you can thru the body in the corners. The impact made a 20 x 10 inched piece of bondo detach from the cab in the back near the bed. Cracked bondo everywhere from just filling the holes with bondo and not welding in new metal. The dash is bent from the driver hitting it. The bed isnt to bad but has a diamond plate welded in over the bottom.

It looks 10 times better in the pictures.
